Actually Tofu, the guards are basically $10 – 12/ hr rent a cops. They are normally carrying a Beretta M9 in a triple threat retention holster that they probably have little training in drawing from. Were they Blackwater Security officers, I’d put my money on the Blackwater guys. Exactly why do you feel that well armed security personnel in a combat environment are mercenaries? Because the idiot at the Daily Kos says so? Wouldn’t that term apply to ANY armed guards who happen to have a military background under that definition? Oh I forgot, liberals think we should throw flowers at the feet of armed attackers and beg for mercy while they’re slitting our throats. Like I’ve said before, when the bad guys come, it’s better to have a firearm than a cell phone. It’s just a good thing that there are people willing to risk their lives to protect the lives of the cowards who refuse to.

We are not a military state, nowhere near what you think it is. UBS, United Bank of Switzerland, has tighter security than most bases. Ever have to sign in to a building while the little old guard sitting at the podium has a .38 Police Positive trained on your midsection aimed through the podium, and another guard with a machine gun in an elevated and fortified position with his gun on you?? That was UBS. Lufthansa in Germany had .50 calibers in gun ports defending the building. Our bases, as FAO says, are lucky if you can find a half dozen men with side arms and ammo within 100 yards of the gates.

That may be true, but if they are acting in a military capacity, I don’t think the argument works. By your thoughts, the civilian Blackwater mercenary forces should not be fair-game.

As for military bases not being able to react swiftly to such an attack– I thought such lax readiness would have been corrected long ago after Pearl Harbor.

Three of the 6 are here illegally. One is a naturalized citizen, two are resident aliens. I have to agree with Oracle. Under the Geneva Conventions, they are saboteurs and accordingly should be tried by a military tribunal and hung in accordance with international law. ALL except the US citizen. HE should receive a PUBLIC trial for TREASON and then be publically executed for his actions.

Hey Tofu, have you been to a military base lately? Most of them have civilian contracted guards on the gate. The gates are almost invariably on major thoroughfares where lines of traffic of military personnel, and often their FAMILIES, wait to have their identity cards checked. I can also tell you that unlike what you may see in the movies, 99% of weapons on an installation are locked in the unit arms rooms, and the ammo is secured at the ammo dump. In other words, it really wouldn’t have been a fair fight. It would’ve taken 20 – 30 minutes to mount an armed resistance above the level of handguns or possibly 1-2 M16s. The only personnel on the installation who would’ve been armed would’ve been the MPs, and they would’ve had to rush back to their arms room for the rifles and ammo needed to stop these thugs. Of course some installations may have started having MPs carry long guns in their car trunks, but that is probably not the norm.

yes, this must all be just an over-hyped invention of the Rove/Bush machine! According to Rosie o’Donnell. the “terrorists” really aren’t and they are no threat anyway.

Anyway, now that our wonderful Democrite leadership is getting ready to go back to ignoring the war that has been declared on us, I suppose we can just ignore this too.

When will the antiwar crowd start demonstrating demanding that these poor, innocent tourists be released? Do you suppose they will be torured while in custody? Quick, Chapatraitor Ted! Come to their aid!
