Nancy Throws Out Thomas Jefferson’s Procedures ” Rejects Procedural Issue On Books Since 1822,House Democrats Just Blinked

By: Pam On: May/16/07 - 18 Comments

Oh what a day for Nancy!  And to think she was going to clean the house!  AP covered it with:

From Drudge bombshell to news article to sinfully delicious talking points to retreat in the span of about three hours.

Might be a new record.

Update: Politico’s noticed a trend:

Democrats are wielding a heavy hand on the House Rules Committee, committing many of the procedural sins for which they condemned Republicans during their 12 years in power.

So far this year, Democrats have frequently prevented Republicans from offering amendments, limited debate in the committee and, just last week, maneuvered around chamber rules to protect a $23 million project for Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.).

On Wednesday, Democrats suggested changing the House rules to limit the minority’s right to offer motions to recommit bills back to committee ” violating a protection that has been in place since 1822.

Much of this heavy-handedness is standard procedure in the House, where the majority has every right to dominate, but it contradicts the many campaign promises Democratic leaders made last year to run a cleaner, more open Congress:

This perceived drift by the party in power resembles a similar drift by the Republicans after they stormed to power in 1994 as a spirited band of small-government reformers. The realities of the majority eventually forced them to play with the rules, too, and ignore many of the reforms they approved during their first months in power.

    1. Well, that was insane. Loose Change? Someone’s been watching too much Rosie.

As for the content of the post. I think that Paul “If they fuck with me or Shaha, I have enough on them to fuck them too” Wolfowitz’ recent disgrace trumps whatever the Dems are doing legally. Too bad the Sopranos is going off the air. Maybe they could have used a foul-mouthed neo-con dinosaur. Leo Strauss would be so disappointed.

Here’s a nice link summing up the Bush Admins legacy.

Considering much of Wolfowitz’ “recent disgrace” has been created from thin air by Soros lackeys, I would disagree. But that isn’t even the biggest reason.

Just like the Republicans, the Democrats are screwing up in Congress. Approval rating is lower than Bush’s, and they are not fullfilling promises of cooperati0on and cleaning up the “culture of corruption”. They are actaully promoting it. Screw the World Bank, I really don’t care- we are talking about our governement here, and that’s far more important.

But it ok to you right AKD? They are on your side. How does that make you any better than the the mindless Reublican automatons that sometimes post here? It’s okay to look the other way if the crap is being done by the side you are on, but it’s scandal du’jour for the other side.

God, you people make me sick with your hypocicy. no wonder I never want to vote again.

Absolutely nothing- it’s a deflection tactic.

IMO, this is a perfect example of the arrogance of the Dems in Congress. What she is doing may be legal, but to dismatle a long running rule established by a founding father (who to this day is light years ahead of anyone today on the topic of govenement and freedom) to accomadate political trickery is absurd.

And here Nancy wanted open and honest government Ted! What kind of left my jaw hanging was the fact that the Republicans figured out how to out manuver the Democrats:shock:

I’m criticizing the right to the right on a right blog. I guess that I could go on here and say “Damn those democrites!” or something equally moronic, but wouldn’t I be preaching to the converted? When I criticize the left, I do it to the left—otherwise it’s just a big circle jerk.

You portray yourself, Ted, as an “independent voice,” disillusioned with both sides of the aisle, etc, etc. Guess what? You’re posting on right voices and you’re agreeing with the RV party line 98% of the time. You’re a company man reluctant to give up the airs of a rock-and-roll-rebel past. Let it go.

Incidentally, who are some of the “the mindless Reublican automatons” you have in mind? Robert? PCD? BonBon? I’ve never seen you argue with one of them.

LOL…if you say so. I never portayed myself as anything- that’s more your interpretation. I post on RV, but also post on a dozen other BBS’s and blogs. I’ve been called Nazi by your side and Commie by Peejz’s side. I’m okay with that and your accusations as well- it tells me I am doing something right. If you want to know exactly what my thoughts are on an issue- just ask me. I will gladly clarify my position. However, I will charatcerize myself as a conservative leaning moderate, if you really need a label.

But like you, I’ve critisized the right on a right blog, but unlike you will also critisize the left on a right blog. I will not preclude one for the other- that’s called taking a side.

Yeah- I am disillusioned by both sides of the isle. The Democrats and the Republicans will be the death of this country. So, I should deflect what Pelosi is doing to a Wolfowitz based comment like you? What is the connection? I’ve never once here or anywhere else justified poor behaviour by pointing to other’s poor behaviour and I never will.

We can get in depth as to why I consider Wolfiwitz action to be less relevant than Pelosi’s if you wish. But don’t use deflections tactics- you’ll be called on it.

    Bacck to topic.

So, tell me why you approve of Pelosi’s actions- simply becasue it may be legal, or becasue you think payback is deserved to the Republicans, or perhaps becasue Jefferson’s precedence are irrelevant?

Sorry but I won’t go there on here or on any other BBS. I strive stay above the fray, although admitedly sometimes fail.

I’ve been on this BBS for a very long time. They know my positions already. Peejz and I had our heated discussion before- ask her if you don’t believe me. Mike and I used to regularly tumble. Robert and I and FAO have also debated issue. We’ve long ago already had our wars.

They disagree with me on about half the issue, maybe a little less. In all of those instances they may disagree with me, but in most (not all instances) they don’t “argue” with me. I don’t approach issues from an elitist stand point. I don’t appraoch them in an aggressive attack stance either. I try to approach them from a position of basic respect and in a tone that reflects that.

Where did I say that I approve? Actually, the actions being a legal payback seems reasonable enough. Basically, I was calling attention to the fact that while Wolfowitz’ criminal activities are downplayed or ignored, we get 5,000 posts about Pelosi wearing white after labor day.

I have never seen you criticize any poster on this site for this sort of one-sided mind-set. Please link to where I’m wrong, where you’ve argued with one of the automatons (which one?? as only a handful of folks post here).
