I am really not quite sure what to think of this expirmental program in New York City. I am all for breaking they cycle of poverty, but a couple of things are bothering me.
Wouldn’t this type of program be better tried in a less expensive city? New York City is the most expensive city in the country, followed by L.A., and then Chicago.
Why are we paying people to make the choices that should be made:Â
- $300 for doing well on school testsÂ
- $150 for holding a jobÂ
- $200 for visiting the doctor
- $25 for attending parent-teacher conferences
- $25 per month for a child who maintains a 95 percent school attendance record
- $400 for graduating high school
- $100 for each family member who sees the dentist every six monthsÂ
- $150 a month for adults who work full time.

$200 for visiting the doctor
I have a sniffle give me my two C-notes
Where’s my check? Except for living in NYC, I have done almost all of your 8 payments, and the payment for going to the dentist is too small. My adopted daughter blows more than a grand each year at the dentist.
I’m all about breaking the cycle of poverty myself but this is ridiculous. Don’t these people get that OPPORTUNITY is how you break the cycle. First you make sure everyone is educated, then you offer job opportunities. I have seen firsthand how abusers use the system. They are people who are perfectly content to live in run down, bug infested apartments, eat less than quality food, go to the free clinics for health care and sit around all day on their asses complaining about the racism inherent in our system.
Give me a break! Ooops, isn’t that John Stossels line?
3-These people participating in the test are already eligible for medicaid, therefore they are being paid to use a service that is free to them. This is an expiriment, but what if it is adopted? How about the kid that doesn’t quite fit the criteria, what is his/her incentive for doing well?
Can I have $100.00 a month for wiping my arse?
Ted, you should get at least $150.00 for that…it’s preventitive medicine..sheeesh!
How much should a diabetic be paid to take their blood sugar readings and to take their medicines on time? I want $500 per BS test and $100 for taking my pills. The pills cost about that much.
7.
Then I want more thna I requested for wiping my arse, because I really tear through the TP.
8, How about an Orion Slave Girl to do the manual labor for you?
9.
Governement slavery?
That could be eiteher the new immigration bill or the welfare state (take your pick).

Reminds me of a great bumper sticker: “The Best Way to Get on Your Feet is to Get Off Your Ass”.
Something like this is being proposed by Mayor Bloomburg. Of course it should be really interesting to see what happens when he enters the presidential race as an independent. It will be even more interesting if the ATF gets off its ass and starts investigating all of the straw purchases his private investigators have been conducting in other states for the purpose of bringing lawsuits against lawful gun dealers in other states. The commonwealth of Virginia has actually enacted legislation condemning his actions because those actions have jeopardized a number of state and federal investigations and put undercover law enforcement officers at risk.
Ted, turn in your Star Fleet communicator.
