University Of Michigan at Dearbornistan To Spend $25,000 On Foot Washing Stations For Muslim Students

By: Pam On: Jun/19/07 - 24 Comments

They didn’t open the discussion up to the public, and the ACLU has no problem with this!  The Detroit News calls this faith favored treatment.  The university claims the stations are needed to accommodate Muslim students, who must ritually wash their bodies, including the feet, up to five times each day before prayers.  The Detroit chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union isn’t getting involved, arguing the foot baths are secular since non-Muslims could use them, said spokeswoman Rana Elmir.

Debbie Schlussel has been covering this story and this I found to be very important:

When I asked why the footbaths were being installed, Gallagher told me that this is “an accommodation to a significant portion of our student body and their friends and visitors in accordance with our mission.” He said that it is a growing trend with Boston University, Cal State-Fullerton, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Washington University of St. Louis, all installing footbaths. “We wanted to be part of that trend in accommodating Muslim students.”

But when I asked Gallagher what portion of the U-M Dearborn is Muslim, he said that the most recent information the school has is from a 2004 survey of incoming freshman. The survey only identified 11% of students as Muslims, whereas 37% of incoming freshman were Roman Catholic. When I asked if there was any accommodation or money spent on Catholic students, he could not identify any.

Gallagher said the foot baths are the result of “years of ongoing negotiations with the Muslim Student Association.” The Chicago Tribune exposed the radical Muslim Student Association (MSA) as an American branch of the Egyptian terrorist group, Muslim Brotherhood, which took part in the murder of Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat as well as the shootings at the Temples at Luxor.

Gallagher insists that he’s confident that “none of our Muslim students is involved in terrorism.” But last year, I received numerous death, rape and torture threats against me, my parents, and grandparents from University of Michigan-Dearborn student Lola Elzein, a Lebanese Shi’ite Muslim. Ms. Elzein was visited by the FBI and admitted to making the threats. Mohammed Fouad Abdallah, another Lebanese Shi’ite Muslim, used University of Michigan-Dearborn computers to send me rape, torture, and death threats in the name of Hezbollah. His home was raided by four FBI agents, and he admitted to making the threats.

What happened to Seperation of Church and State?

“only identified 11% of students as Muslims”

ONLY 11%? That number seems huge to me. I guess I didn’t realize just how much Michigan has become the US Mecca for Muslim immigrants.

And who is this Debbie Schlussel character and why should I place weight on her opinion?

Anyway, foot washing is good. Nobody likes smelly feet.

1-37% is higher than 11%,therefore the Catholics should be granted the same considerations…

Look up who Debbie is. I could care less if you place weight on her opinion or not…It seems the Detroit News and other media outlets agree with her.

Here is how you responded to the Cross at the Wren Chapel:

Maybe this Jesus-freak donor should find a private, instead of public, school which reflects his values.

Wouldn’t the same hold true for the Allah freaks?

1, Tofu, thank you for proving your hypocrisy today. Maybe you should do the indepth examination of yourself that you demand others do who don’t embrace your homosexuality.

Again, the ACLU shows its bias.

Oh, Tofu, does the reporter have to be from a homosexual supporting organization or a hack Democrat for you to believe them?

 “Enough with the homosexuality.” Oh that will erase the bigotry on your site, Peejz, for sure.

Anywho, so what kind of considerations do Catholics want? Blood of Jesus drinking fountains?

I find it interesting that you would say “Oh that will erase the bigotry on your site, Peejz, for sure.” and then follow it up with “Anywho, so what kind of considerations do Catholics want? Blood of Jesus drinking fountains?”

Bigotry is the only issue on this iste. Hypocrisy abounds.

    7. I agree Ted but would argue that while conservatives are more often than not willing to step up to the plate and admit they aren’t perfect liberals NEVER do. Never.

I’d also add that I have been to some of the more liberal blogs and they are horrendous. They attack anyone and everyone who holds a different point of view. While I myself don’t condone personal attacks I understand where alot of it comes from. Frustration abounds in conservative circles when you can’t convince a liberal of anything even when solid evidence is presented.

Do Catholics and other Christians not partake in drinking the blood of of their savior, Jesus?

Tofu, how about being able to have Bibles in class without the professors going bonkers and flunking the kids for having Bibles?

    “How am I being so?”

Painting Christians and Catholics the way that you did would be like saying male gays uncontrollably goes around in public committing sodomy.

“Do Catholics and other Christians not partake in drinking the blood of of their savior, Jesus?”

    No, they do not.

13-”Do Catholics and other Christians not partake in drinking the blood of of their savior, Jesus?”

    No, they do not.

Um, yes they do. Or at least they believe they are doing so. It’s called transubstantiation.

Um, yes they do. Or at least they believe they are doing so. It’s called transubstantiation.

Never heard of such a word.

    “Um, yes they do.”

    No, they do not.

First off, transubstantiation is a doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church only, and not all Christians.

Second, it is a symbolic act representing the last supper called the Sarcament of the Eucharist. No Catholic actually believes they are drinking blood when partaking in Holy Communion and the elements, as you’ve implied.

You have plainly answered my question that you dodged yesterday TT- you do believe in misdirecting fact and telling lies in order to advance a doctrine that you agree with.

It is a shame that you condone being intellectually dishonest. How do you expect folks to take the issues you believe in seriously, andd give your opinions proper consideration?

16- I am not being intellectualy dishonest. They sip wine and call it blood. They eat bread chips and call it body. Too freakish for my world. I’d rather wash my feet.

As for transubstantiation, that is an explaination by the roman catholics to explain the eucharist, BonBon.

“16- I am not being intellectualy dishonest. They sip wine and call it blood. They eat bread chips and call it body.”

Yes, you are being intellectually dishonest. That isn’t what they do, as those are symbols. The bread and wine symbolizes the body and blood of Christ, just as it did during the Last Supper.

    You are a religious bigot.

Yes, your hypocrisy is very apparent. You are doing the same thing that more did in F9/11- endorsing lies in order to further an agenda.

    Shame, shame on you.

What I can’t figure out is why are you endoring a religious act in a governement funded educational institution?

Of course the Anti-American Communist Liberals United (ACLU) has no problem the Muslim accommodations! If it undermines, attacks, or otherwise weakens traditional America, it is ok with the ACLU.
