Just 14% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress.Â
This 14% Congressional confidence rating is the all-time low for this measure, which Gallup initiated in 1973. The previous low point for Congress was 18% at several points in the period of time 1991 to 1994.
Congress is now nestled at the bottom of the list of Gallup’s annual Confidence in Institutions rankings, along with HMOs. Just 15% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in HMOs. (By way of contrast, 69% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in the military, which tops the list.

Toasted Tofu,
How’s that Democratic Revolution coming?
Ted, I forgot to honor you with this poll..can we through all the bums out yet?
LOL- thank you Peejz
Yeah, we need to throw them out. This is probably going to make folks mad here, as it does most places but I’ll say it anyways.
If you support the parties then you support the status quo. If you are registered with one of the parties, then withdraw your registration. The leadships are corrupt almost to the man. Register indeependant if you feel the need, but DON’T support them! Until thier base collapses, then they will remain in power and we are going to get more of the same. More same old crappy two choices.
Raise your voice, raise your fist and raise some hell. Wake up and send a message, and don’t let them maintain this control.
All I want is my country back.
It doesn’t make me mad Ted. I was actually a registered Independent until after 9/11. While I don’t understand or agree with all of Bush’s policies I support him and all the other republican candidates far more than I do the dems. At this point for me it’s sort of a lesser of two evils. But that is rooted in my opinion that terrorism more than any other issue we face today is the real problem. The dems seem to ignore it as a major threat and the republicans take it seriously.
Would I go for a third party that was logical and made sense? Absolutely. The green party today is jsut an offshoot of the democrat party. I would like to really see a party take root that makes sense and practices what they preach.
Perhaps a mauve color would be good
“At this point for me it’s sort of a lesser of two evils.”
Bon Bon, may I respectfully point out that supoorting any evil just isn’t right? It doesn’t matter if it is lesser or not.
“But that is rooted in my opinion that terrorism more than any other issue we face today is the real problem.”
I support the war in Iraq and the ME. However, I don’t support how we are fighting it. I am listening to Glen Beck- he has a Navy Seal on now who is telling his story abouyt how his team of 4 was killed, mainly to the way we are fighting this war. I’m sitting here ready to cry, because his story is so heart wrenching. My family is there, and while I understand the risk they take when they enlisted I also understand that approaching the war in any way other than an approach that ends it as quickly and decisively as possible is a travesty to our fighting men and woman.
When I said lesser of two evils I meant in the sense that our congress is made up of politicians who are incompetent, out of touch, money grabbing fools who should all be booted out imo. As far as the war in Iraq goes from my point of view Pres. Bush played catch up with the issues at hand. When you look at Saddams regime since the first Gulf War and all that he did (chemical weapons, exploiting Oil for Food, torture and murder, etc.) then add to the ignored threat of terrorism this country engaged in in the 1990′s he really had to make some hard and quick decisions. There was absolutely no way we could leave this country further exposed after 9/11.
I do believe the time has come for a fresh look at middle eastern policy overall. Unfortunately this would have to encompass some politicians (mainly on the left) to work with and get on board with the ideas of change. I don’t see this happening.
Because my ideals and values more closely reflect the republican party I will stay there for now and I will continue to support Bush and give him the benefit of the doubt in most cases.
I honestly don’t see the logic of having our soldiers leave before the job is done. I do see solutions other than surrender that would allow our soldiers to exit most of Iraq but I doubt any on the left would go for them. Change is a hard thing to accomplish though and it takes time. Time is the one thing we don’t have left and the lefties in this country won’t give us the time we need. It’s a sticky situation by any perspective.
HEY YOU! LOOK AT THIS!
The Navy Seals name on Glen Beck’s radio show is Marcus LaTrel (sp?). His book is called “Lone Survivor”.
Beck ran out of time, and asked Marcus back tomorrow. PLease make it a priority to listen to his story. Yes, he’s selling a book, but unlike most of the others this one may well be well worth it.
“When I said lesser of two evils I meant in the sense that our congress is made up of politicians who are incompetent, out of touch, money grabbing fools…”
Okay, so you are supporting incomptent, out of touch, money grabbing fools. I still find those traits to be evil, even if it is a lesser one.
“Because my ideals and values more closely reflect the republican party…”
That’s my point Bon Bon. I don’t think your values any way remotely reflects the Republican party. I’ve seen this excuse over and over without once seeing it actaully justified. If they do “more closely” reflect your values, how close is it actually? May I respectfully suggest you have an introspective self examination.
Look, the common folks like you or I aren’t represented. Sure, on occasion their acts of self interest at time parralel our interests. but we are in no way represented.
This is exactly why the Revolutionary War stared.
“I will stay there for now and I will continue to support Bush and give him the benefit of the doubt in most cases.”
I beseech don’t do this- you have to challenge every move, every suggestion that even Bush makes. You can’t vote for someone because the have an (R) after their name.
I’ve saisd repeatedly that the problem with America is the people. I have to ask everyone here…
Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution?
#3 and #5, Ted: Couldn’t agree more! I am fed up with the leadership of the Republicrat party over the Shamnesty Bill. I think EVERY Senator who for it should be thrown out of office in utter disgrace.
In my dreams they would be sent to a firing squad for violating their sworn oath to defend the Constitution, and for attempting to destroy America.
To think as recent as January of this year I was invited to be a member of the Republican Central Committee of the County I live in. No way in hell now…
BonBon the Greenies are worse than the Democrites. Greenies are the Communists, who have hijacked Environmentalism as a cover and vehicle to promote their agenda.
Of course the Hippies, Liberals, and other saps who might not otherwise openly support the Commies are duped into thinking the Greenies just want to save the planet.
Ted, here is where you and I will have to disagree. I think BonBon’s point is that while it would be nice to think that an independent party might have a prayer, the options are vote Republican, or have Democrats in office. While I have very little faith in the Republicans to actually do the right thing, I KNOW that the Democrats will do the WRONG thing. I have to agree with Bonbon in saying that it’s better to take your chances with someone who might do the right thing versus not voting and being saddled with someone who does the wrong thing. Trust me on this one, I supported Perot in 1992 and we all know how well that worked out.
That kid was on either Rush or Sean the other day. Very Compelling story. Prime example of trying to fight a war in a politically correct manner. When will the government realize that the only way to fight a war is to fight to win?
Exactly FAO….one has to wonder how they would accomplish, within the boundaries of law, getting a fourth political party established. It would take time and money and money is precisely what we should get away from.
Republicans DO try to do the right thing. I am more and more convinced the Democrats do not want to even try. A good example. I went to the link for earmarks given on this site. The link was a CNN investigation and it had the states and the districts and the reps listed with their response for opening the book on earmarks given to their districts. While I didn’t do 100% lookup I did take a sample of about 4 dozen getting a equal number of R’s and D’s. I got 5 yes (with links) from Republicans and no response from an equal number of Democrats. There was one answer from a dem though and this might surprise some
but it was Nancy Pelosi who said difinitely NO. Go figure.
The House Republicans are good, and there are many good Republicans. However, the Senate Republican leadership has crossed over and become the enemy. Trent Lott? Flush…
Yes, the Perot candidacy gave us Klintscum. But I will never again vote for a RINO just to keep the Democrites out.
That kid was on either Rush or Sean the other day. Very Compelling story. Prime example of trying to fight a war in a politically correct manner. When will the government realize that the only way to fight a war is to fight to win?
FAO we (and others) have been saying this for two years. Why can’t the “experts” in the Bush Admin figure this out? They say they want to win…
Robert, the problem is that the Dems and their minions in the press want to win back their power so badly that they are perfectly willing for us to lose the war to insure that. They have repeatedly described our service members as killers, murderers, etc etc whenever any collateral damage occurs while treating the terrorists who put those people in danger or killed them themselves as being one step short of saints. Hell, they refuse to even call them terrorists. When was the last time you heard anyone on CNN, ABC news, etc etc refer to the Islamofascist suicide bombers as terrorists?
FAO…I have only heard suicide bombers being referred to by Fox as homicide bombers but thats Fox. They have a tendency to present both sides of an issue and that drives the libs insane. Talk about suppressing free speech.
At any rate, I couldn’t ever verify this but I heard that in the House they passed some kind of referendum abolishing the term “Global War on Terror.” It was after this I heard J.Edwards in a campaign speech say it was just a bumper sticker slogan for Republicans. Which brings a final point to all of this and coincides with your first sentence.
The Democrats are perfectly willing to lose the war on terror in order to win political power. That, my friend, is the biggest and saddest problem of all.
10.
“While I have very little faith in the Republicans to actually do the right thing, I KNOW that the Democrats will do the WRONG thing.”
Robert, the way I see it I know the Republicans will do the wrong thing too. If they do something that happens to benefit us it is only because it benefits their power base substantially more. They stimulate the economy through tax breaks because the favor business and the rich, not because it it also happens to be good for us. In the end, they will screw us, like lifting 40 hour work weeks, OT and the like (already been attempted). Selling job overseas, No border protection (I can see the skies light up now with the al-Queuda nuke).
Look, if you folks keep going in the same direction, the direction of the country will NEVER change and will only continue to worsen. I am not saying to support a third party candidate at all. That doesn’t mean you have to support the status quo though. Abandon the party, start on a grass roots level. Get locally elected officials in. Once enough are there, soon or later one will have to be supported on a national level.
Do whatever is best for you- take your own unique approach. But as long as you support these cret9ins, you will NEVER have you America, and you NEVER will.
Oh look only 14% trust the demacratic CONgress i,ll bet the liberal left-wing news media are shocked:razz:
“…but I heard that in the House they passed some kind of referendum abolishing the term “Global War on Terror.—
Good. It’s a stupid phrase and quite honestly it’s embarrassing.
War on terror? War on poverty? War on drugs?
How’d those other “wars” on inanimate objects work out?
