A congress with the lowest approval rating since the early nineties thinks they deserve a raise. It’s time to throw all the bums out.

“Most members support the pay raise as a means of retaining experienced lawmakers and of making sure that Congress is not simply dominated by wealthy people.”

    $170,000 a year isn’t wealthy?

“We need to show the American people we are willing to make some sacrifices … that we recognize there’s a struggle for some in today’s economy.”

Wow, does anyone actually believe these guys are still in touch with reality?

Hey! They deserve it! Lowest approval ratings in the history of polling on the subject, etc. Yes, they really deserve it!

I have heard radio soundbytes by some of the cretins who supported the Shamnesty bill talking about how apparently the American people “don’t want to solve the immigration problem”.

You stoopid Klowns!!! They want it solved, alright, but NOT your way. They want the laws already on the books (1986) enforced! They want the border controlled.

I can’t believe the real or feigned stupidity of these ingoranuses.

Drake…$170,000 a year is NOT wealthy especially if you consider families with kids. Have you checked the cost of college lately. That’s chump change for a family with say 2 kids.

#3 There are enough of them out there in the public to give the politicians that impression, for sure.

Like every time someone (this far into the debate) post some simple drivel like “The immigrants just want to come here to work! What’s wrong with that” or “We can’t track down and deport 12 million people” I am reminded of that fact.

I should have read the post…got my granddaughter here with me and she’s quite the distraction. $170,000 a year is not wealthy HOWEVER our politicians come from monied families or have at least earned wealth. Every last one of them. They may be able to make ends meet with the subsidies they get from their stocks, etc. but most families don’t have this advantage. They do NOT need pay raises and what has galled me is that they give themselves these raises while accomplishing nothing.

Robert and PCD…hope you guys have great weekends.

And further, I think anyone who works FOR the people ought to be given the stipend their constitutents give them and nothing more. In fact, working for free would be a really good idea; that would stop all but the sincerest of people who want to serve. When they do well and support actions and legislation that actually IS in America’s best interest we can reward them accordingly.

“$170,000 a year is not wealthy” “Have you checked the cost of college lately. That’s chump change for a family with say 2 kids.”

What are you on crack? If you can’t support 2 kids on $170,000 a year than you have some serious problems beyond trying to send your kids to college. You ought to really rethink your lifestyle and priorities. I wonder what you consider wealthy, do you think it’s only millionares?

I don’t give a rats ass how much college tuition costs, it’s irrelevant. If you’re trying to pay for college with your current salary instead of planned savings that you should have been putting aside since your kids were born, then you’re an idiot and you’re kids probably are too stupid to go to college anyway. Do you think the same way about your house or car?

Honestly, maybe you are one of the lucky few who “struggle” by on $170,000 a year and can’t imagine anyone surviving on less, sounds very John Edwardsish, but trying to make it sound like that isn’t rich is just assinine.

Actually Drake I work for the state government and my personal salary was always about $10,000 less than the average in my job profession (which was clerical). I made due on $12,000 per year plus a night job which netted me another $8,000. That being said I sacrificed, saved and did everything I could to earn money and get ahead.

So quit with the lectures. And yes, most colleges average about $15,000 per semester. That’s quite alot for folks to come up with.

PS…all the while sacrificing I often shed lots of tears but never, not ever, did I once take welfare, food stamps or any other government assistance.
