The Unfairness Doctrine: Backoff Dems

Said The Courier Post editorial board:

There’s enough broadcasting space via the airwaves and Internet to ensure all viewpoints can be heard.

It sounds a little like sour grapes for Democrats to even be considering the return of the Fairness Doctrine:Members of Congress should have much better things to do with their time. Yet, U.S. Sens. Diane Feinstein and John Kerry have stated their interest in further studying or even reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

Both of the Democratic leaders need to back off from this pointless effort meant to strengthen their party and instead focus on means to strengthen their country as a whole.

Said Michelle: Welcome to the “Loud Folks” coalition, Courier Post! Gotta give props to my native south Jerseyans.

    anyone there?

  3. Mike,

Over at Right From The Right There are actual Liberals who deny that PBS and NPR are liberally slanted. They also claim that the MSM is Conservative.

  4. I know, it’s hilarious….. have you ever seen that piece of garbage on PBS, “Democracy Now!”…. oh my.

  5. Hence Mike, the Dems were told to back off!

  6. Over at Right From The Right There are actual Liberals who deny that PBS and NPR are liberally slanted. They also claim that the MSM is Conservative.

And I’ve no doubt they truly believe what they are saying, because Liberalism is a form of mental illness…

  7. The fact that Democrats are targeting talk radio and seeking to silence it by chipping away at First Amendment freedoms is no surprise. To me, however, the real outrage is even tentative support of such a “solution” from Republicans, specifically those that have been supported by talk radio pundits in the past. Below is an e-mail I sent to Senator Trent Lott’s office following his disgraceful appearance on Fox New Sunday with Senator Feinstein:

    Dear Senator Lott,

My name is Sean Arther and I am a 36-year-old Republican conservative living in San Diego, California. Thus, I am not one of your constituents, however, I have strong ties to Mississippi as my Mother is a Meridian native and five generations of my family (including myself) graduated from Millsaps College. The Chair of the Chemistry Department is named for my deceased great uncle Joe Price. Accordingly, I am related to many of your constituents.

I am writing to you to express my utter mortification at your appearance on Fox News Sunday alongside Senator Feinstein during which you expressed criticism against conservative talk radio for killing the unbelievably misguided Shamnesty Bill, and joined Senator Feinstein in suggesting a return to the Fairness Doctrine.

Sir, your actions are appalling and inexcusable and I pray they will not be forgotten in your next bid for re-election. Let me remind you that it is because of the support of conservative pundits like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham that you still had a job following your pedestrian blunder at Strom Thurmond’s 100th birthday party. These influential commentators with millions of viewers/readers/listeners disagreed that you should have even resigned from your leadership position, let alone your Senate seat (which is what Democrats were calling for). And now, following the resounding defeat of the bill for so-called immigration “reform”, you repay them (and American conservatives) with the following quote: “Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.”

This is, as they say, an outrage.

Conservative talk radio’s role in defeating your efforts to reward lawbreakers and cheapen America’s sovereignty will go down in history as a triumphant example of our democracy at work. What you cavalierly label a “problem” was tireless conservative vigilance against Washington elitists like you who have abandoned their principles and their constituents.

Unfortunately, since I don’t live in Mississippi anymore, I will be unable to cast a resounding vote against you in your next re-election bid. That disappoints me. I will, however, be advising my many relatives all over Mississippi to vote against you at all costs, even if your opponent is a transsexual communist. Because, let’s face it, your unequivocal support of amnesty for illegal immigrants and the “Fairness” Doctrine is indistinguishable from the positions that a transsexual communist candidate would take. In other words, Senator Lott, with friends like you in the Senate, who needs enemies?

    Sincerely,

    Sean Arther

  8. Good work. Trent Lott and his fellow RINOs need to go the way of the Dinosaurs.

  9. It would selence all conservatives and give liberals all the talk shows SCREW THOSE DEMACRATIC SCUM BAGS:mad:

  10. the fight for freedom has just started the end game is your freedom and most of you will hand it over without a fight.

its not just the pigs/demacrtics its the system of total treason.

  11. So does this just cover talk radio or also television? It seems like if it covers television it’d be a good thing. I’m thinking of all the times cnn does a talk panel that consists of 4 liberals to discuss some issue such as Bush’s approval rating. Balance in the media would be a good thing.

  12. San Francisco Liberal

“There are actual Liberals who deny that PBS and NPR are liberally slanted.”

LOL…yeah. I would say that NPR and PBS have a reality slant.

They simply are the best out there.

  13. I actually turned off a PBS show the other night because of the liberal rhetoric that was being spewed by the commentator. Making unsubstantiated and inflammatory commentary about highly accomplished government officials is NOT reporting the news. Why is it so damn difficult for the MSM to simply report the news without using inflammatory rhetoric? I heard a FOX news radio anchor refer to the commutation and possible pardon of Scooter Libby as him getting off scot free. Exactly how is having your reputation destroyed, and spending millions on legal fees defending yourself over a process crime that occurred during an investigation that should’ve been over BEFORE you were even interviewed getting off scot free? This whole thing has severely damaged the legal system in this country. Who in their right mind would even agree to answer ANY questions knowing that if they are called to come in for another interview years later and their testimonies are mirror images, they could be charged with a felony? I would guess that hence forth the Q&A sessions will go more along the line of:

    Q:…….
A: Under the fifth amendment, I refuse to answer on the grounds that any answer I may give may be used against me. BTW don’t bother asking any other questions, because I’m not going to answer them either for the exact same reason. It’s illegal for you to compel me to answer, so I’m not going to. Shall we call it a day then? If you choose to subpoena me again, you will get the exact same answers. So don’t waste your time.

Imagine exactly how THAT response is going to advance any investigation into anything.

  14. yeah, SFL, because in your “reality”… a network can spew anti-american venom on a daily basis, not have to compete for ratings, and continue to be subsidized by illegally confiscating taxes from hard working americans.

    yes, reality.
