Nickele, O'Reilly is a commentator not a journalist. There is a huge difference. The problem is that while people watching FOX know that O'Reilly is expressing his opinion, those watching CNN believe they are getting a factual news broadcast. While I personally liked listening to Christianne (sp) Amanpour reporting from Operation Desert Storm in the early nineties, I couldn't stand to listen to the current crop of "reporters" in the middle east. She reported the facts, the current group cherry pick what they are going to report including fictional accounts to shed as bad a light as possible on what's going on in Iraq. How else do you account for the disparity between what the soldiers are seeing on the ground and what is being reported? How many outlets are reporting the huge drop in terrorist attacks versus publicizing the few that do occur?

decry George Bush at every opportunity / support Bush whatever he'd do
ignore liberal scandals / ignore conservative scandals
know all about conservative ones / know all about liberal ones

Of course we have clearly different opinion which make us like or dislike the guy currently in charge in the US.
Now, I thought that Bush was about spreading democracy in the world (which is something I applaude). Do you agree with him? So, what is democracy? Is it wishing that the whole world agreed with Bush? Or is it wishing that different opinions can coexist, as long as they respect democracy themselves? All I'm writing here is my opinions about Bush. You have different opinions. Great, the world is not just with one mind, thank god. I'd be scared if the whole world shared exactly all my opinions. And can you imagine a world with no liberals to insult? ;)
And it's also great that many in this world don't have super strong opinions for liberals or conservatives. Otherwise everything would be set forever and boring.
I'm very happy to see people here having strong ideas, but I'm sad to see that some take politics too seriously. I think it's good to see other people' ideas.

The big problem between France and the US is the fact that most people in both of these countries think their country is the best in the world.
There are many things that I love in the US. Like most French people, I really like many TV shows and movies from the US. I like the way you fund research (way better than France does). I like many of your inventions (that I use everyday: computers, internet...). And there are some other stuff I don't like in the US. I think most people in the US feel the same about France: they like some things (Paris, joie de vivre, and je ne sais quoi...) and dislike others.

68, Nickele, my aren't you selective in what you watch. You ignore Liberal scandals, but know all about the Conservative ones. My how special!

You know what, just shove your head back into the liberal sewer you live in and leave the rest of the world to the adults who take action, not cower behind surrender flags, under their beds, and decry George Bush at every opportunity.

Well, Offcr, I'm sure what you're describing must be true, and I did not hear about these events because I was not watching CNN at that point (and now, I watch CNN international once in a while, it may be a little different from CNN). The fact is that I find the tone better (not perfect) in CNN compared to what I remember in Fox News from the time I was in the US.
The one I remember the most of is Bill O'Reilly. I was shocked to hear that guy, supposedly a journalist. He could not invite a guy that had a different opinion than himself without shouting, shutting up the guy. This is not what I expect from a journalist. And basically on the whole channel, no debate. I don't conclude this from reading books (I read one of the books about Fox News, but it only confirmed my thoughts). I've never had such a bad feeling about CNN.
But seeing the difference of appreciation about news channels between you guys and me, I concluded that these channels are appreciated mostly by people with opposite views.

62 - If France were so IRRELEVANT ON THE WORLD STAGE, I don't understand how France's decision not to follow on the war in Iraq could have saddened you so much... No, I think France is relevant on the world stage, not as much as the US, but that's why we have to build a stronger political Europe, and Europe's world relevance is nothing small.

Nickele, the reason why so many well informed Americans almost completely discount CNN is because of actions that they have taken in the past. They freely admitted to concealing information about the torturous activities of Saddam Hussein's regime in order to keep their Baghdad bureau open, despite knowing that they were being used as nothing but a propaganda tool. They felt it was more important to keep a bureau open reporting propaganda than to report real news and be forced to close it. They have repeatedly concealed important facts or completely buried stories about Democratic politicians while headlining and repeatedly airing mere allogations about Republican ones. They spend virtually no time telling about the Democratic Congressman who was caught with $90,000 in marked FBI bribe money hidden in his refrigerator ( William Jefferson, D-LA, a FACT), but continue to scream from the roof tops that Scooter Libby illegally outed a CIA agent. (which is a LIE for a number of reasons.)They continually refer to the NSA intercept program as domestic spying or wiretapping, neither of which is true. The list goes on and on. CNN simply does not report the facts without editing them for content and spinning them for maximum benefit for the liberal left.

That is the reason why people on the right don't listen to CNN. They don't even report the weather without putting a slant on it.

62 - well, soccer is not my favorite sport, rugby is. Well, I'm French, so you'll probably change your mind and say it's a babies' sport
I watched American football (which you guys call football), which seems similar to rugby: problem, it's way too slow for me, there's not enough rhythm in that sport for my taste.
Mike, you are the new Messiah. You know everything that is good for human kind. If 90% of the planet plays one sport and you don't like it, you'll tell them all how they are ignorant.
Btw, the French soccer team is not composed of Africans. They are all French (or maybe a few Europeans as well?). Of course, we did a good job at giving French citizenship to some good players to be sure they could be part of the French team. At least we don't say we are world champion without playing against other countries.
