OSHA was trying to make it next to impossible for a retailer, wholesaler, or shipper to deal in ammunition or reloading components. The outrage among the gon owners in this country was such that OSHA decided that perhaps trying to classify ammunition as a high explosive probably wasn't going to fly. OSHA can make all of the regulations that it wants, but when Congress realizes that their jobs are on the line over it, Congress simply pulls OSHA's funding until they make the regulation go away.

That's maybe why the anti-2nd Amendment, anti-Constitution, anti-America types are working so hard to take the powder away. I heard they are working now on not only recording every time anyone makes an ammo purchase of any type, but taxing it so steeply that most people will stop buying it. I suppose next they will go down the list and collect it. Or try...

What is needed in this Country is to make violation of the Constitution a criminal offense, with teeth. I can think of probably several dozen Congress critters (there are many more) that should be in prison now for violation of their sworn oath to protect and defend.

Robert, there is one comment made at the recent "stop the Amnesty Rally" that I know you'd appreciate. It's from a woman doctor and Vietnam War veteran. While I have to agree with it, I find it rather sad that even such a thought should be running through the minds of so many of our country's defenders. I'm not talking about the liberal lawyers at the ACLU or the liberal democrats that have continuously tried to destroy this country over the last 40 years, I'm talking about our veterans. That comment was to "Keep your powder dry."

The facts, reality don't get in the way of liberal rhetoric.

Isn't it incredible that in the U.S. we are actually debating issues such as controlling the borders to stop terrorist infiltration, granting the rights belonging to U.S. citizens to terrorist prisoners, etc?

40 years ago that would have been unthinkable. But now after years of leftist activism so much of American society is unable or unwilling to grasp the obvious. Common sense is no longer common.

Liberalism is a form of mental illness...

Actually Matthias, many of the illegals entering this country are criminals to start with. They are smuggling drugs and other contraband into this country. Economic considerations are still no excuse for raping children or engaging in running gun battles on our highways. The Islamofascist terrorists are a significant part of the reason as to why the southern border needs to be secured because Al Quaeda has started training sleeper cell members to speak Spanish and Mexican geography and then are slipping them across the border disguised as Mexicans. We have found numerous items from Islamic countries in the desert along our southern border where people from countries that support terrorism have been sneaking across the border. Last year a man claiming to be hispanic was caught in New Mexico with false identification that showed he was a hispanic illegal alien. The problem was that his fingerprints proved that he was actually an EGYPTIAN who had been previosuly deported. This past week it was announced that the FBI has been investigating a human smuggling ring in the southwest that had gone from smuggling Mexicans to smuggling Iraqis and people from other Arab countries into the US because the Arabs pay better. With these facts in hand, do you still believe that sealing our borders isn't part of a defense against terrorism?

4- "they really must develop solid national security plans that include reducing illegal immigration dramatically. The Islamofascist extremists intend to attack all of the western nations"

I think, that are two separate topics.
Illegal immigrants coming over the southern border are (as you describe) a mass phenomenon, while muslim terrorists either enter legally your country as tourists or are already residents or the US...

As you mention the lawless attitude of illegal immigrants. I don't want to justify it, but I think one "explanation" for that behaviour is that due to their "illegal" residence, they have no legal means to earn money and that's why they try it with illegal actions.
In Germany the most likely illegal immigrants are asylum seeker from Africa. Before they enter the country (for economic reasons), they throw away their passport and claim to come from an unsafe country, which nobody is able to prove that they don't. So as long as their trial is pending, they are not allowed to work. What are they doing? They see other asylum seekers making money with drug dealing- and they do the same! I would not say that their tendency to become criminal is a cultural attitude coming from their lawless home country- it is a lack of proactive integration in their new country.

Matthias, we have a substantially different problem with illegal immigrants here in the US. We have a continent and a half of mostly uneducated and unskilled workers who live in deplorable conditions because of the corruption of their home countries directly across an essentially unguarded 2000+ mile border. US immigration laws only permit a limited number of them to immigrate legally every year and only under strict guidelines. While I believe the quotas are outdated and need to be updated, they are still the law.

Because of the corruption in their home countries, they sneak across the border illegally (estimates are 10,000 a night including ones previously deported) and take jobs for below market wages depressing the wages for those who are legal US residents. Roughly 1 in 7 Mexican citizens reside in the US. Frequently businesses will hire unskilled illegal aliens over skilled US residents (citizens or resident aliens) as a means to cut costs despite their lacking the ability to produce quality work. They also frequently lack the ability to communicate effectively in English. Ordering at a fast food restaurant is almost a crap shoot as to whether your order will be remotely correct unless you can order in Spanish. Every nationality who has immigrated to the US has learned to speak English without special accomodation, the hispanics are insisting on everything being in Spanish.

Likewise, they are so used to the lawlessness of their home countries that they feel little compunction to obey the laws of this one not even counting entering the country illegally. As a result, while the 12 - 20 million estimated foreign nationals (ALIENS by definition) in this country illegally only represent 4-7 percent of our general population, they represent over 20% of our prison populations. Drug dealing, violence, rape, murder and child molestation are rampant in many hispanic neighborhoods. Gangs effectively control many of the neighborhoods through the use of violence.

Because of the lack of health care in most of our southern neighbors, there are no immunization programs. Many of the Illegal Aliens entering this country have never seen a doctor nor been immunized against diseases that the US has worked hard for decades to eradicate. Many diseases that have been eradicated in the US population are being reintroduced by the aliens entering the country without undergoing the same background and health screenings that were standard requirements for over 100 years among other immigrant groups.

For the sake of every decent country on the planet, they really must develop solid national security plans that include reducing illegal immigration dramatically. The Islamofascist extremists intend to attack all of the western nations, and are more than willing to do so if given the chance. We must take action to keep them from getting the chance.

Howard,
I can't speak for the US, but in Germany most of the immigrants are legal.
Some of the immigrants got somewhat close to become illegal, because the German law demands them to decide for a single one nationality, what they tried to avoid. These immigrants pretended to have decided for the German nationality and to have given up their original citizenship, but later on secretly applied (at the foreign embassies) to get back the foreign citizenship. They did that in order to be able to inherit or purchase estates in their original home country.
When this was discovered all of those deceivers got quite some trouble!

I wonder how many of those moslems are legal immigrants.

Evanston is having a town council meeting about allowing the police to initiate deportation proceedings against felons. A lot of people want to protest. Same question as above except substitute hispanic for moslem...

"The debate also comes at a time of rising tension within Germany's large, mostly Turkish, Muslim population. On Thursday, four major Turkish groups boycotted an annual meeting on integration held by Mrs. Merkel, to protest the recent tightening of German immigration laws."

What the NYT does not mention is the reason for the protest, which is because the immigration law as it is planned right now demands basic German language skills (which is fair to demand, I think) but it makes a difference towards the home country from which somebody wants to immigrate. People from Turkey or Russia would have to learn German, while somebody from Australia or the UK not!

I am not sure if it is very constructive to completely stay away from such a discussion meeting, but the reason for the protest is absolutely justified. There simply cannot be a 2-class immigrant distinction!
