Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

“It’s ironic that someone who has made a career out of holding powerful interests accountable is so sensitive to having his own work held up to the light by impartial journalists, as we did in our examination of ‘Sicko,’” CNN said.

LA, you knew it was a White Flag. When people like you nit pick over typos, we know that not only you have nothing to say, but you can’t refute what was said and meant by the author.

I got it–you need to remove the doubled “http://” in the address…

So, this is the “white flag?” It sounds like CNN admitted to some errors. I saw the Gupta/Moore thing on Larry King, and where Gupta didn’t admit to errors he admitted that Moore’s numbers were indeed accurate according to his sources, and that the sources were themselves legitimate, but went on to argue that Moore had “cherry picked” from a variety of (legitimate) sources. Regardless, the outcome, in some cases, seems to support Moore’s conclusions even more strongly (e.g., Cuba needing to spend only $229 rather than, as Moore stated, $251 on patients which Gupta, after admitting to CNN’s initial error “called” Moore on). The accusation of “cherry-picking” is thus a little hard to fathom. Here’s what (political economist) Dean Baker had to say: “CNN’s response [to Moore] is scary since it indicates that CNN has no one familiar with social scientific research on their staff. It is common to use data from different sources, when data from the same source is unavailable.” This might be giving Moore too much credit, but it does call attention to how silly CNN’s “damning criticisms” actually were.

Something that (I was surprised) wasn’t shown during the Gupta/Moore thing (though Moore asked Larry King to show the clip) is the image that demonstrates that Moore did in fact include Cuba’s WHO ranking in Sicko. Anyone who saw the film witnessed this. When CNN ran the clip, however, they covered up the image of Cuba’s name and ranking with the ubiquitous CNN logo and then asserted that Moore had withheld Cuba’s ranking. This move seemed weirdly calculated…

    Interesting…

Would anyone really be suprised if either one of the parties involved got their information inaccurately or mis-represented the facts? Think about it:

    1) Moore uses WHO information, which uses poor methjodolgy to reach their conclusions. Moore’s previous movie, F 9/11 has mostly been debunked and is only referenced by only the furthest fringe groups as being factual. Moore has a solid history of fact twisting.

    2) CNN has on several occasions been shown to misrepresent facts and gain information using highly dubious methods.

I say, this- let Moore sue CNN and let it be decided in a court of law. Let CNN counter sue. It doesn’t matter who loses, the American people will win.
