It's worse than Madeline Not so Bright preventing us from assassinating Bin Laden, the state department actually notified the Pakistani interior ministry (which we KNEW had been infiltrated by radical Islamists) that we were intending to shoot a cruise missile at his through Pakistani airspace. Amazingly, he unexpectedly left the target area after the call was made and before the missiile arrived. Rumors are that he got a call from someone in the interior ministry warning him.

All valid points Ted. I DO very much blame Carter because I believe the hatred from the ME originates there. However, the problem itself did not escalate until the Clinton administration. There were more attacks on american interests during his administration than ever before. As for Bush Senior I did not vote for him a second time because I always felt he didn't finish the job. In hindsight I was right. I voted the third party candidate because I hoped it would make a statement.

30,

Then you have to lay the blame at Bush's feet, Bush Sr's feet, Reagan's feet and Carter's feet also because our policy towards terrorism has been the same throughout. Carter AND Reagan should have taken out the people involved in the hostage crisis in Iran, Reagan should not have retreated from Lebannon, Bush Sr should have smacked Hussein in Desert Storm and Bush Jr. should have immeditely taken out Bin Laden.

30, BonBon, you want a sick laugh? There are libs over at "Right From the Right" who claim the 9/11 commission debunked the claim Clinton was offered OBL and denied taking him.

Ted. I blame Clinton enormously. If he and his administration had actually been paying attention to what was going on he wouldn't have missed the red flags of which there were many during his administration. As for OBL it is no secret Clinton had at least three separate chances to get him. Would it have made a difference? Probably only a small one but it most likely would have changed the dynamics of terror to a manageable degree.

And maybe it was before 9/11 but have you honestly been listening to the rhetoric of the left and all these peices of legislation on all fronts that seem to actually help terrorism? I have and it's disturbing.

27.

I don't at all agree with what you are saying.

That was before 9/11- we were following the same policy regarding terrorism that we had since past 30-40 years. I can't blame Clinton for not pursuing him.

Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

Ted. I believe I heard a story a while back that we apparently had our sites on bin laden in 1996 and Ms. Madeline A. refused to allow us to assasinate him. A few years later many of our citizens died because of that decision but whats a few American lives to a liberal?

23.

A great assessment FAO.

What really gets me is that many of the folks who compain that the invasion of Iraq was an invasion of a sovereign country wants us to invade Pakistan for Bin Laden, which is also not only a sovereign country but a loose ally.

The also claim the terrorism is a problem that warrants legal and not military action, yet want to invade instead of going through an extradition process (Yes, I know exreadition won't work, but that's not the point.).

And yet- pakistan is a country who we know already has nuclear capability.

It is hypocricy.

Our best bet is to help Musharrif stave off the radical Islam sects, and weaken the tribes. Meanwhile, black ops should infilitraate the area over the Afgan border and attempt assinition or extraction of bin Laden, if getting him is a priority.
