Our choices are:
Sam Brownback
Rudy Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
Duncan Hunter
John McCain
Ron Paul
Mitt Romney
Tom Tancredo
Tommy Thompson
Fred Thompson
My first choice is Rudy, but to be honest…I think it is way too early to be deciding on anyone. I figured we had until at least November.
Thanks for posting Peejz. My first choice is Rudy as well. He has a firm grip on the reality of the war on terror and as for his stand on social issues, he understands human nature. Everything in life is not and cannot be black and white. You have to see the grey.
Previously I liked Fred Thompson alot but his hesitancy to enter and debate takes me aback somewhat. I realize historically he’s not too late but there again, things change and it doesn’t seem like he gets that.
Fred was a top choice when I heard about his run, but Memorial Day came and went as did the 4th of July….Eiither you are in or you are not!
I do like Rudy and feel that he has the firmest grip on actually running things!
I wish Fred would “Come to Jesus”, too.
Rudy-
Pros- seems to have an inate understanding of the importance of the GWOT, is a fiscal conservative,
Cons- has had a stormy personal life, He’s a globalist (his firm represents interested parties in the NAFTA highway), pro gun control
John McCain-
Pros- independant thinker, seems to have an inate understanding of the importance of the GWOT
Cons- was backed by George Soros in the 2000 Presidential campaign, perhaps too old to hold office at this point, concocted McCain/Feingold which has set back American politics decades
Next?
Why did you single out the republicans as having a weak field? I really don’t see anyone from either party that I’d consider a strong candidate, much less one I’d want to vote for.
5.
I made the same point in another thread, which may have lead to this thread.
I don’t see a strong candidate on either side, really.
Don’t bet the farm on John McCain. With his recent pro amnesty for illegal aliens, he might lose his senatorial seat. The people of Arizona have spoken loud and clear that we’re fed up with the illegal alien problem and John’s just not listening. On the ballot a couple of years ago were 4 anti illegal alien referendums. ALL of them passed by an almost 3-1 margin including having over 50% of the legal Hispanic vote. McCain’s campaign is so far in the dumpster that at this point there is speculation that he is only staying in the race to collect enough matching funds to pay off the campaign’s debt.
Thompson would be my first choice. Rudy is probably going to be the candidate in the general election, and I’m hoping that Romney will take the number 2 slot on the ballot. I think that given free rein, Romney could revamp the health insurance situation in this country like he did in Massachusetts.
Well it’s certainly weak in character and any real sense of civil rights.
Last night the LOGO channel featured six of the democratic presidential hopefuls in a two hour discussion addresing LGBT issues. Similarly all republican presidential hopefuls were invited.
None came. Big surprise. 8-
Yes. I’d say they’re “weak” or at the very least out of step.
Eben, you are wrong. The republican candidates were NOT invited. Besides, you still just don’t get it with conservatives do you? We’re not against gays.
BonBon,
Eben is just mad that Conservatives just won’t bend over and grab the ankles for Gays.
Speaking of gay “rights”, the gay marriage issue is something that I find somewhat funny in that some of the same people who are absolutely opposed to religion having any place in government, demand that the government have a say in who can participate in a religious ceremony. What happened to their principile of separation of church and state on this issue?
Thank YOU DRAKE for making a point that I have argued repeatedly. The 1st Amendment wasn’t put there to keep religion out of government, it was put there to keep government out of religion. It doesn’t say that the church shall make no laws respecting the establishment of government, it says “CONGRESS shall make no laws respecting the establishment of religion, or restricting the free exercise thereof”.
I’ve given a lesbian friend the only argument against banning gay marriage that will work. The Constitution bans cruel and unusual punishment. It is unconstitutional to castrate sex offenders because that is considered cruel and unusual. Therefore to require one member of a same sex couple to undergo a sex change operation in order to become legally married would also be questionably cruel and unusual. Is not a sex change operation essentially castration combined with hormone therapy, psychological counseling and plastic surgery? Isn’t sex determined by the number of X and Y chromosomes?
Eben, I’ve got some serious advice for the LGBT community. Knock off the in your face crap. You’re hurting your own cause. You would have a hissy fit if there were a straight pride parade that acted the way that you do. The burly men in pink tutus with wands and fairy wings do NOT advance your cause. The more in your face you get, the greater the amount of resistance you will face. Read a few sales books. Dale Carnegie wrote a book called “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” Pick up a copy. Do you know why the B2 stealth bomber is so effective? Because it has as few flat surfaces that reflect radar waves back to the transmitter as possible. It redirects radar waves around it and thereby reaches its target with minimal resistance and without being noticed until it’s too late. I’ve had people tell me they weren’t buying a car, even as they were driving off the lot in their new car.
