Your child may be taught “Allah is the greatest” and “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah”, or maybe it will be I is for Intifada, or if Obama gets his way, sex-ed for kindergarteners. What I would hope your kids learn is the “50 Rules Kids Won’t Learn in School: Real-World Antidotes to Feel-Good Education.” (h/t to Michelle)

Here are a few:

#1 Life is not fair. Get used to it.
#7 If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn’t have tenure, so he tends to be a bit edgier. When you screw up, he’s not going to ask you how you FEEL about it.
#15 Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping. They called it “opportunity.”
#42 Change the oil.
#43 Don’t let the success of others depress you.
#48 Tell yourself the story of your life. Have a point.

Each rule is explored with wise, pithy examples that parents, grandparents, and teachers can use to help children help themselves succeed—in school and out of it.

A few rules kids won’t learn in school:
#9 Your school may have done away with winners and losers. Life hasn’t.
#14 Looking like a slut does not empower you.
#29 Learn to deal with hypocrisy.
#32 Television is not real life.
#38 Look people in the eye when you meet them.
#47 You are not perfect, and you don’t have to be.
#50 Enjoy this while you can.

Nice and completely expectable example of fascist thinking inside US conservative heads:
The Islam statement of beliefs (which is in its sense completely similiar to the cristian statement of beliefs or the pledge of allegiance) is mentioned in the same line as terrorism or child abuse!! :-w

3- “I wish you were posting from an insane asylum”

    I bet you wish…
Then you think we’d talk the same language, right? :d

    5.

It you’ve made the natural progression.

You have degenerated into doing resorting to hominem attacks and childish insults. In posts like #1 and the previous I pointed out where you resorted to stereotyping southerners you’ve even resorted to bigotry.

    Hiter-esque behaviour…

    :-s

    6- Great analysis, Ted!!
It IS Hitleresque to discriminate a Religion (and its members) as a whole just for some stupid prejudice!
Hitler did it that way with the jews! And you are doing it with the muslims!!!

7, Mattias, you are just the sick, mindless personality that followed Hitler unquestionly putting Jews in the gas chambers.

“And you are doing it with the muslims!!!”

    I am?

Care to lprovide quotes where I’ve done that Matthias? Or are you going to scurry away like a chicken and make accusations without presenting evidence?

Hitler was a bigot- just as you are. You are bigoted towards southerners and members of the military. You have stereotyped both- that is bigotry.

The difference bewtween you and I is I don’t make assumptions of individuals by clumping them in a group and stereotyping them

I have no ill feelings toward Islam- I admire their history and culture. The men of that religion have made great contributions to the arts and other areas such as animal husbandry (their horse and dog breeding skills is legendary) and the folks that practice Islam as their chosen path peacefully are to be admired. They place a high value on the stregnth of the family unit.

You see Matthias- I don’t confront you here because you are a pacifist, a liberal or married to a Muslim- all of those trait are nothing to be ashamed of. I confront you because of your hypocricy as an individual. THAt is what you should be ashamed of.

Of all of those things that you are, the last thing you should be is a bigot, but somehow you seem to still maintain that status. It is an amazing dichotomy to me.

And regarding post #6- you know damed well I was addressing your behaviour. A childish “I know what you are but what am I.” response is no response at all. As I said you HAVE degenerated into doing resorting to hominem attacks and childish insults. Your bigotry towards southerners and the military is the same bigotry Hitler showed against the jews, which is why ithe behavuiour is Hilter-esque.

Believe it or not Mattias, most of the people in this country are not Muslim nor do they want their children being taught Islamic religious practices in the very schools in which Christian and Jewish religious practices have been banned. This thread is about children being taught things that will be of absolutely no value to them in life versus a book about the very things that they need to learn to succeed. I’ve seen the products of the modern outcome based education system. Outcome based education where the teachers are more concerned about kids’ self esteem than their academic performance has been an absolute failure. I’ve repeatedly said I’d rather have a bunch of 8 yr olds with self esteem issues who can read and do math, than a bunch of 18 yr olds with high self esteem who can’t fill out a job application or pass a simple math test.

It’s very enlightening to see the look on someone’s face when you try to explain to them that just because they want a $35,000 vehicle doesn’t mean that they can afford a $35,000 vehicle. I’ve actually had 23 yr olds try to buy Escalades because they’ve seen a rap star or pro athlete cruising around in one. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but the smart money says that financing isn’t happening without a good cosigner.
