This thread is about children being taught things that will be of absolutely no value to them in life versus a book about the very things that they need to learn to succeed. I've seen the products of the modern outcome based education system. Outcome based education where the teachers are more concerned about kids' self esteem than their academic performance has been an absolute failure. I've repeatedly said I'd rather have a bunch of 8 yr olds with self esteem issues who can read and do math, than a bunch of 18 yr olds with high self esteem who can't fill out a job application or pass a simple math test. It's very enlightening to see the look on someone's face when you try to explain to them that just because they want a $35,000 vehicle doesn't mean that they can afford a $35,000 vehicle. I've actually had 23 yr olds try to buy Escalades because they've seen a rap star or pro athlete cruising around in one. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but the smart money says that financing isn't happening without a good cosigner.
