The Left Is Angry That Bush Won’t Allow Them To Expand Welfare, Therefore Bush Hates Kids

Reuters, the NYT’s and WaPo all are carrying the same article with their own little added touch of BDS, but all three stories have this sentence:

states must demonstrate that they have “enrolled at least 95 percent of children in the state below 200 percent of the federal poverty level” who are eligible for either Medicaid or the child health program

based on the coverage at memeorandum, one would think that Bush is out of line. SCHIPS is for poverty/low income children Joe, not middle class families. The arguement is that states have been expanding for 10 years and Bush is destorying this. Regardless, 10 years later, there are still 6 million children eligible for Medicaid that have not signed up and only 700,000 children left eligible for SCHIP but unenrolled. That is a classic example of rearranging a problem with more money, which is how Washington creates entitlements.

Paul Howard has a perfect example of what happens when one is dependent on the government:

Nicole Garrett is not one of the uninsured. Her family is covered by Michigan’s Medicaid program. And so when her daughter Jada developed painful joint inflammation and needed to see a specialist, she turned to her Medicaid plan. But if she had coverage, she lacked access: there was only one rheumatologist in her network, and the wait to see him was more than three months. Unfortunately, her story is all too common, an example of the failure of public programs ” designed with the best of intentions ” to produce acceptable outcomes. With Congress debating a massive expansion of such programs, the better prescription is for a smarter safety net, not a pricier one.

For millions of Medicaid patients, finding access to a doctor who accepts Medicaid’s low reimbursement rates is an agonizing struggle. As Ms. Garrett told the Wall Street Journal recently, “when we had real insurance, we could call [a doctor] and come in at the drop of a hat.” In fact, according to 2006 study by the Center for Studying Health System Change, over 20 percent of doctors have stopped accepting new Medicaid patients – a rate “five times higher than for privately insured patients.”

Today, states spend more money on Medicaid than they do on K-12 education. And many states have lavish plans that (on paper) cover at least as many services as private insurance. But they offer doctors only a fraction of what private insurers pay.

  10. Well of course! Bush daring to deny the Democrites the use of your taxes to expand the Democrite virtual plantation, enablig them to purchase more votes for 2008, translates directly into:

Bush hates kids, wants to starve the poor, wants to take from the poor to give to the rich, as Republicans alwys want to do! He also wants to poison our air and water, destroy the environment, and kill millions more innocent Itaqis! :o

This resonates with the seriously mentally ill crowd (the core of the Democrite party today).
