Globe: The American Dream Of Homeownership ‘Like Handing Vodka ‘ to Alcoholics

By: Pam On: Sep/10/07 - 17 Comments

Gee, and the liberals were going to look out for them. Weren’t they going to make sure that they got a piece of the American Dream, via home ownership? See the problem is, we live in a culture where people charge first and question payments later. Millions of people have done just fine with sub-prime loans, but some haven’t fared so well.

No doubt to the Leftists this is just more proof that people cannot be allowed to make their own decisions; that the Gov’t should provide their housing and remove that issue.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful for ordinary people all to live in Gov’t-owned apartments, like in the former Soviet Union?!!!

    A Leftist dream!!!

Poof! There goes Dubya’s “Ownership Society”

Another Republican idea goes down in the flames of failure.

3- So subprime lending was a Bush’ baby, it started under him? Wow, didn’t know that. Will Edwards be donating his 58 million severance from a sub-prime lending institution to those that were too stupid to own a home?

PCD, I think you’re just as much of a freak and an fucking idiot as you think I am…but, come on, you really don’t need to say it on every post of yours.

I don’t tell you just how low an opinion I have of you every post, why must you do the same?

“So subprime lending was a Bush’ baby, it started under him…”

    ————————————–

    No, of course not.

But the man was so proud of these record home ownership numbers on his watch, that he proudly called it the “ownership society”…and now it’s all imploded on itself.

    “”"”"”"”"”"”–

    No, of course not.

    **********************************************************

So then why make an idiotic statement implying Bush started it?

9, because, Robert, SFL has Bush Derangement Syndrome to such a degree he can’t think straight. If SFL can’t blame everything on Bush, he is in physical pain.

Yes I understand. But I, like Peejz, am still glad SFL comes around.

Well SFL, are you saying that there is a segment of society that is just too stupid to own a home…I mean come on, they can’t even get a regular loan, therefore, they shouldn’t be allowed to own a home….

More people have paid their loans than not…

I’d guess that most of the residents of San Francisco do not own a home. Does that make them stupid? :-?

    Batting practice:

And it’s fun for me too, because I get to correct you when you are wrong, like when you said that there are no parochial schools that receive tax dollars here in america.

So yes, I like coming here for many reasons too…one of which is “batting practice”.

    Not saying that AT ALL.

I’m just poking a little fun at Dubyas “Ownership Society” and how it has fallen on hard times.

Funny thing about the “ownership society” is that ownership beats being a renter, because ownership involves investment and future returns. You can toss $1500 a month out the window in rent, and ten years down the road have absolutely nothing to show for your money. With a mortgage, provided you don’t buy a house you can’t afford, you end up with a valuable asset. I bought my home in 2002 for $69k and it’s now worth over $130k. That increase in value amounts to a substantial return on investment. With my lot being large enough and zoned to hold as many as three residential units, I expect the value to continue to climb. Yes, my payments are higher than I had been paying in rent, (but less than my ex brother in law paid in SF in the mid 80s for a one bedroom flat) but I’ve also taken out a substantial amount of equity that allowed me to survive being unemployed or underemployed for 7 months. You can’t do that living in a rented apartment.
