“I think it’s hard to project four years from now,” said Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois in the opening moments of a campaign debate in the nation’s first primary state.
“It is very difficult to know what we’re going to be inheriting,” added Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.
“I cannot make that commitment,” said former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.
That’s what came from tonight’s Democratic debate at Dartmouth College.
This can’t be good news for the nutroots.

Hillary Rodham Clinton paraded Bill continuously around the country for campaign events to raise the big cash like that of Norman Hsu and to win over voters with her husband’s popularity among registered Democrats. But like she does on most issues Hillary wants to have it both ways. It constantly amazes me how quick these people seem to be to surrender. With the statements from these three it’s obvious they are playing to the moderates but I believe they would withdraw just as soon as they got into office.
I think what they’ll say next is to ‘blame Bush’ IF they have to stay in Iraq because he so messed things up.

Yeah, they’re trying to look moderate.
When Hillary is elected president, she’ll begin some kid of phased withdrawl from Iraq.
There is no way in hell a democrat president, and a bigger democratic congressional majority will allow this travesity and shame to continue.
At least, I hope.
That said, I’d want Obama in the Oval…but I’ll accept another Pres. Clinton.

4. I agree. Bush and Clinton are done. I would not however want Obama. I still do not think this country is ready for a muslim leader.
SFL…you never did answer my question on what you think we should do in the face of terrorist attacks therefore I can only assume by the other things you write that you are content to fight them here on our shores?

We are already fighting them on our shores.
And with good old fashioned LAW ENFORCEMENT we are breaking up terror cells before they can do any damage. We need to continue doing this, and we need to get better at it.
Most importantly, of course, we need to remove from the table one of the terrorists main points of contention and incitement of anger: the Israeli Occupation of Palestine.
If a political solution can be reached that works for both sides, then that will be a HUGE step forward in getting this jihadi problem better under control.
Another good start to fighting islamic terrorism would be to avoid invading and occupying any Muslim country. Example: Iran.
Our Law Enforcement agencies need more Arabic speakers!!!!
We need to foster better relations with Muslim communities and their religous leaders so we can help them nip radical fundamentalism in the bud on the local level, and cooperate with investigations.
…which is one good reason why you Righties need to tone your Islamophobia down. We need these local American Muslim communities to like us, not fear/hate us.

BERG: As far as I can tell, it’s helped them. I mean, I’ve met very few Saudis that have anything nice to say about any Iraqis, I haven’t met anyone — there’s so much competition in the Middle East, the Kuwaitis don’t like the Iraqis, the Saudis don’t like the Iraqis, the UAE doesn’t like anyone. Everyone hates Iran. It was hard to find any sort of common alliance.
MATTHEWS: So even though we’re in there pushing the Shia majority to win because we obviously support democracy, the group with the most people wins all the time, we have supported the Shia overthrow of the Sunnis basically since 2003. The Shias are not too popular among the royal family in Saudi. I just wonder why they would be happy to have a Shia-ruled Iraq next to a Shia-ruled Iran now threatening them.
BERG: I don’t know. I mean, I really don’t know. People ask me coming back from the Middle East what I observed and what my take away is in terms of what can help. And the only thing that I consistently go back to is, by far the country in the Middle East that seems to be functioning as peacefully as possible is the UAE. Its cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi where capitalism has taken ahold. There’s such investment and growth going on in those cities, that they police themselves. I had dinner with Sheik Mohammed of Dubai and asked him why there had been no attacks in his country, a country which has alcohol, a country were women are allowed to wear bikinis, and where there’s a much more western lifestyle. He pointed to the Britsh hotel and said we just won’t let it happen. And I think that the bottom line for me unless some sort of capitalistic growth occurs, you’re going to continue to see this chaos.

If more Americans were capable of using that to reach their own conclusions the Democrites/Leftists would be a very small minority party. America would be as great as it was in the 1950s and 3/4 of the world would enjoy Liberty.

There is a reason why the military and intelligence communities do not have adequate numbers of Arabic and Farsi interpreters. When I was in the Army in the late 80s, the reenlistment bonus for Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, and Russian linguists was $20,000+ for a 5 year reenlistment. Under the Clinton administration that bonus was cut to $5,000. With the market value of a skilled linguist being twice their military salary, it made no sense for experienced linguists to stay in the military. When the private sector pays that much more, and you have a family to feed, it only makes sense to move on to a private corporation.
