Maine school wants to provide contraceptives to 11 year old students; no parental notification necessary…

The Pill would require parental permission, condomes wouldn’t. A sixth grader will remember to take her pill everyday? How do you feel about the fact that your kid could be receiving birth control, and the health officials don’t need to tell you?

If the committee approves the King proposal, it would be the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available to some students in grades 6 to 8, said Nancy Birkhimer, director of teen health programs for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Most middle schoolers are ages 11-13.

Although students must have written parental permission to be treated at Portland’s school-based health centers, state law allows them to seek confidential health care and to decide whether to inform their parents about the services they receive, Belanger said.

  3. I don’t see much of a problem with providing contraceptives to kids.

the goal is to reduced unwanted pregnancies, and providing help to these teens is a step in the right direction.

  4. “I don’t see much of a problem with providing contraceptives to kids.”

Without pareantel consent, this is not only a parent’s rights issue but a religious issue also.

  5. Well of course 11-yr old should even be encouraged to engage in sex! In the Leftist new Society, 5 year olds will be doing it!

  9. Is parental notification required before little Jimmy puts his little penis is little Suzzy? Maybe that should be required by law.

  20. Awww:.once again my trackbacks aren’t properly getting to several of the blogs to which I attempted trackbacks. Either they only show the part where I list the trackbacked blogs (which is at the bottom of my blog entry ” the text of the entry seems to get skipped) or the trackback does not show up at all. So once again I’m leaving a comment with the information for whatever it’s worth. My latest blog entry is entitled:
