It has come to my attention that many citizens have claimed that when we vetured onto Global War on Terror the President did not declare that this would be a lengthy war. I want to quote the President, formally:
This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.
Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen.
George W. Bush, September 20, 2001
When we invaded Iraq, it is just a battle within this war. It has be proven that Iraq was a supporter of terrorist. In the same speech, President Bush said:
And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.
George W. Bush, September 20, 2001
So my question is this: If Mr. Bush was this clear cut about the type of war we are fighting, why is that folks are so confused on this issue?

Thank-you Ted! I could not find those quotes!
October 17, 2007 - 07:11 PM on October 17th, 2007
I was never confused Ted. I’m glad that you found these quotes for the confused who argue on this site. There were other speeches he has made where he continually asks for Americans patience and MOST OF ALL…HELP! Help as in being on the lookout for suspicious activity in your communities, etc.
Ted, you deserve the Patriot of the day award.

I think many Liberals are intentionally confused on this issue. I call it aggressive ignorance.

“I will not forget this wound to our country or those who inflicted it. I will not yield; I will not rest; I will not relent in waging this struggle for freedom and security for the American people.”
George W. Bush, September 20, 2001
In looking at this speech in hindsight, it makes those to object to this war look short sighted and blinder wearing. For these who are against defending ourselves and harp on every mistake made, I hope that someday you will see the folly of the “gotcha” game you’ve been playing.
There are more important things than politics, but 90% of America just seems to not understand that.
It will be our downfall.

Just to change up a bit. I don’t have the URL at the moment, but in Madison, WI, there was an anti-tax rally. The government workers, including cops in uniform, outnumbered the 350 tax protesters. The state workers using bullhorns, etc. did their best to shout down the protesters with screeches of “Pay Your Share”. One blogger on the scene got in the most telling shot against the state workers. “I’m happy to see state government functioning well with all of you off the job.” That is not an exact quote, but it is the best I can do from memory.

Interesting- no comment here from those who are on the other side of the issue.

8, Ted, do they ever admit shamelessly distorting what Bush says to support their political agenda? Especially when you have the quotes in context to immediately prove them wrong or worse?

“When we invaded Iraq, it is just a battle within this war.”

That’s where we disagree.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.
Invading Iraq post-9/11 was a CRITICAL strategic error on our part, and has severely set back our effort to reduce radical islamic terrorism.
It merely incited them, and made many more enemies of America – at a time when we needed more friends.

Yeah, that’s all fine and dandy, but is it too much to ask to have us fight the RIGHT PEOPLE?
Even the US Marines feel they would be better of serving in Afghanistan, not in Iraq.
October 19, 2007 - 06:13 PM on October 19th, 2007
Hold onto that comment SFL. All we have is the one article I posted about moving the marines over there and that info didn’t come from the marines. Let’s not say they want to go there, because we have no way of knowing that at this point. It has not had any followups to it, unless you saw something I missed. It would be a good move to have them go there as that type of terrain is right up their alley.
October 20, 2007 - 07:34 AM on October 20th, 2007
SFL. I would like to point out that first of all Bush NEVER said Saddam had anything to do with the planning of 9/11. Having said that though, this man DID support terrorism on many levels. He had training camps in Iraq, he sold technology and weapons, he harbored terrorists on the run in Iraq (The Blind Shiek was in part responsible for the first WTC attack) and he lived off a state stipend Saddam gave him. Saddam wrote $25,000 checks to the families of homicide bombers who blew up Israelies. The list goes on and on.
We are in Afghanistan, it is one front. We also needed another battlefield and Iraq was strategically the best place. Were we disappointed that the Iraqi’s didn’t stand up? Yes, but you have to remember, we let them down horribly after the first gulf war and they had no reason to trust us. We owe it to them.

“That’s where we disagree.
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.”
I never said that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 at all. The fact is that terrorist perpetrated 9/11, this is a global war on terror and Iraq was a state sponsor of terrorism. As a result Iraq was a legitimate target in this war.
“Invading Iraq post-9/11 was a CRITICAL strategic error on our part, and has severely set back our effort to reduce radical islamic terrorism.”
It merely incited them, and made many more enemies of Again, HIGHLY debatable but not the point of what I posted.
