Child molestation, like every other crime, requires three distinct things to be present to occur. There has to be Means (If you don’t understand what the means to molest a child are, might I suggest you take a human sexuality class or at least rent a porn video.), Motive (These are sick sociopaths who get off on molesting children, that’s their motivation.), and OPPORTUNITY. (If the perp doesn’t have the opportunity to commit the crime, he can’t commit it.) The Boy Scouts are trying to protect the Scouts from molesters by denying the molesters the opportunity to commit the crime. BTW, the Constitution doesn’t require that any organization allow anyone who wants to join to do so.

As for saying that a background check would prevent child molesters from being able to be Scout Masters, that’s a BS argument. The liberals have so tied up the system on passing information about child molesters over privacy concerns for the criminal that over half of the states don’t have useable records, Identity theft is rampant, and criminals don’t follow the law (which is why they’re called criminals in the first place isn’t it?) about registering. One child molester was caught and FINALLY sent to prison after plea bargaining down to a misdemeanor on over 5 occasions in as many states over a 20+ year period. In his possession was a coded log book of all of his molestations dating back over 25 years and over 5,000 entries. Since he had plead down to a misdemeanor on all of those occasions, he HAD NO RECORD of being a sex offender. Is this the person you want taking your son on camping trips? BTW he presented himself as the kindly neighbor who would befriend single mothers and take their sons camping and fishing where he would then molest them.

When was the last time that a gay or feminist group gathered millions of cans of food for needy families? The Boy Scouts do it every year.

When was the last time a gay or feminist group took innercity kids hiking or camping in the woods and taught them about self reliance? Or taught them to swim? About the only groups that do that are the Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA/YWCA.

Which Gay or feminist group holds as its values being Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent? Those are the Scout Laws and in the Scout Oath are sworn to.

Which Gay or Feminist group teaches people to “do a good turn daily” That’s the Scout Slogan. Isn’t that a wonderful thought? Helping out others without expecting reward. I personally think we could use more of that in this world. Don’t you?

Which Gay or feminist Group teaches their membership to be prepared for unexpected emergencies so as not to have to rely on others to survive them while helping those who are not? The Boy Scouts motto is “Be Prepared” and they teach First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Safety, Camping and other skills to back it up. And Yes I do have those Merit badges.

Which Gay or Feminist group promotes anywhere near the following:
“On My Honor” – This means that My word is my bond and I will not willingly break it
“I will do my best” – Not slack off and do as little as necessary to get by
“To do my Duty” – Now there’s a word the liberals seem to have forgotten DUTY.
“To God ” – Note it doesn’t specify which God only a God and all faiths are accepted. As Atheists don’t believe in a god, their oaths have little to no value.
“And my country” – Yep, the Scouts do foster a sense of duty to country. Not the UN.
“And obey the Scout law” See above for what that entails.

I’d bet if a Gay, atheist or Feminist group even offered to open a youth services center, you’d be screaming that they needed an entirely new building built at government expense. With the youth services that the Boy Scouts provide, cut rate rent is the least that Philadelphia should give them. With the situation with the youth in Philadelphia last time I was there, they need what the Boy Scouts have to offer BADLY. Not to mention the millions of tourism dollars that flow into Philadelphia every time they hold the Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge 10 miles away.

I find it amazing that the liberals scream about innercity youths needing services to keep them from falling into a life of crime, while disparaging the one organization with a better than 90 yr track record of teaching young men the skills and attitudes that they need to grow into productive adults. With the Tiger Cubs program starting as young as five, followed by Cub Scouts, Webelos and on into Boy Scouts and after turning 18 the Explorer program, there is an organization that can teach a child to try hard and succeed versus ending up as a criminal thug. Too bad the liberals are more interested in spouting sound bites and pushing political agendas than actually doing something to prevent and solve the problems of inner city youth.

If you don’t think that the values taught in scouting stick, I’ve recited all of the above from memory and I haven’t been a scout in over 29 years. My only regret being that I didn’t stay active long enough to make Eagle. I had completed the necessary merit badges but got out over disgust over inner troop politics.
