UPDATE: 107 criminal counts against Planned Parenthood in Kansas…..Why Would A Newspaper Wait To Print The Story Of A Death At An Abortion Clinic?

By: Pam On: Oct/23/07 - 8 Comments

UPDATED AND BUMPED:Michelle Malkin has a good roundup of this criminal complaint. The counts range from falsifying documents to performing illegal late-term abortions. Planned Parenthood, of course, is crying “anti-choice politics!”

A hearing is set for Nov. 16.

Some background

******************************************************************************************
A reporter from the Cape Cod Times approached the mother for an interview, two days after her daughter died. It was five weeks after her death, that the Times ran a story on Smith’s death under the headline, “Parents search for clues in daughter’s unexplained death.”

I find it hard to believe they were concerned for the feeling of the family at that point. If the mother didn’t want it to be printed, chances are, she would not have spoken to the press.

Tim Graham cites Steven Ertelt for this story:

The Times interviewed Karen Trott, a local resident who was a friend of Smith and went with her to the abortion center.

Trott said Smith was initially worked up and told to come back later in the day for the actual abortion and said Smith was 13 weeks pregnant at the time.

She waited for the abortion procedure to be completed so she could drive her friend home. But that never happened as the botched abortion apparently caused Smith significant medical problems.

“And then all of a sudden (an assistant) comes out and says she’s not breathing,” Trott said. “And I was like, what do you mean she’s not breathing?”

After paramedics rushed Smith to a Cape Cod Hospital, Trott called Eileen and Tom Smith to let them know about their daughter’s condition.

Meanwhile, Smith’s attorney filed a Complaint for Discovery on October 4, for information from the Medical Examiner’s office, the hospital, the abortion facility and abortion practitioner Rapin Osathanondh.

Osathanondh, who received his medical training in Thailand, did the abortion on September 13.

Next week, Smith is expected to file for administrative control over Laura’s estate so she can have access to her daughter’s medical records, the Times reported.

Could it be that we have been numbed to the reality that abortion is a procedure that carries risk?

Tim asks:

Remember Holly Patterson? Most don’t. Some older examples are in here.

I’ll spare you the details of procedures I’ve had in order to avoid cervical cancer, but I can assure you, 2 have been postponed. One was because of anemia and the other was my blood pressure. Any time there is a risk of blood loss, and an abortion falls into that category, any doctor worth the ink his license is printed on will postpone a procedure. Could it be that little thing about the 13 weeks that made time so much more precious for the abortion?

I think people unfortunetly die in many medical procedures.

People have died while sedated at the dentists office.

There is always a risk, however small it might be, that any medical procedure brings to the patient.

This is certainly a tragedy for this young woman, her family and friends, but I don’t this is very newsworthy. Or can even be used as political “ammo” against the pro-choice crowd.

SFL the problem isn’t that people die from medical procedures, the problem is that the risk is seriously downplayed at planned parenthood. If you investigate it a little bit, you’ll find that planned parenthood isn’t in the family planning business. They’re in the abortion business. I heard an expose on the training that their “counselors” receive and it was more to pressure the woman to get an abortion than to even look at the other options. Honestly, they weren’t trying to counsel the woman on her options, they were trying to close the sale on her having an abortion. I used to sell used cars and didn’t resort to the scare tactics these people were using.

I personally have no issue with early term abortions, but I think before a woman gets one, ALL of the risks and other options should be laid out on the table and not in some fine print legal document. I also do not believe that a minor should be allowed to get an abortion without parental notification. If they aren’t old enough to sign a consent form for a dentist, they aren’t old enough to have an abortion without Mom and Dad giving the okay. Unless they’re already living on their own, until they hit the age of majority, they don’t have the right to privacy.

3, FAO, it isn’t just early term abortions, it is late 3rd trimester abortions that PP participates in. PP are liars, and SFL is fumbling to try to support liberalism gone amok again.

How about the mega clinic they opened in Aurora IL? When they got the permit to build, they used a subsidirary’s name on the license.

PCD, I’ve said before that once the fetus is capable of self sustaining life outside of the womb, even if in an incubator, it’s no longer an abortion. At that point in time, it’s murder. If the mother can’t make up her mind before then, she needs to ride out the last three months and if she doesn’t want the baby, put it up for adoption. There are plenty of people wanting to adopt children in this country and the waiting lists are years long.
