It’s Not Just The Message, It’s The Presumption Of Ignorance

Mike Soraghan wrote that “Democrats are losing the battle for voters’ hearts because the party’s message lacks emotional appeal”. The problem isn’t so much the message, it’s the presumption that we are too ignorant to do a little research, to see what it is they are really telling us. I get the feeling that this Congress isn’t living inan internet world. I really believe they think most people still wait for the daily paper to arrive.

When the Democrats took over, Nancy Pelosi promised a New Direction for America IN THE FIRST 100 HOURS. Nancy even posted this for all to see:

The 100 Hour Agenda responded to a nation frustrated with years of Congressional inaction, and took the initiative to address issues of concern to America’s families. From the first day, the New Direction Congress, with new leadership and working across party lines, set a new course – one that gives more of us the opportunity to attain the American Dream.

From the get go, there were problems. Stem cell research went nowhere, minimum wage except for San Francisco? And the 9/11 Commission recommendations? The LA Times said it best:

“While the 9/11 commission recommended one committee, we will have three committees. As far as I can tell, their only job will be to write a report and give it to themselves,” said Rep. David Dreier (R-San Dimas), who led the Republican side of the debate with several feisty denunciations of the Democrats’ decision not to hold hearings.

Nancy drained the swamp? The Democrats refuse to allow public scrutiny of all earmarks. Pelosi’s Do Nothing Congress Is Getting Attention, Another Cut And Run Failure For The Democrats. Democrats: Gen. Petraeus Can’t Be Trusted , because Dems ready to spin the hell out of Petraeus’s progress report. Weak Tea Indeed: Democratic Leaders Water Down Ethics & Earmark Reform Bill. Democrats Abort Election Reform. A Message To Harry Reid: Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! So what does Pelosi do to help our troops? The Democrats Are Putting The Terrorists Interests Before National Security .

How do nancy and harry see this? Harry Reid: “We raised the bar too high.” Nancy Pelosi:”we can only do so much.”

From bumper stickers to amygdalae: Democrats try to figure out voters

Last year I blogged about the Democrats’ attempts at getting to know voters by checking out the bumper stickers on the back of their cars. It would appear that their strategy has shifted to an examination of neurons:

Once the Democrats figure out that gazing at one’s shoes doesn’t qualify as a “NewD irection”, they may actually accomplish something.
Perhaps they should listen to their own rhetoric from last year about working in a bi-partisan way, but I don’t expect that anytime soon. First, they have to figure out the “bi-partisan” doesn’t mean that the other party just caves in.
