Un-flippin-believable~!

She announced today that the House will debate Iraq troop withdrawals again:

Democrats controlling the House of Representatives will try again to bring American combat in Iraq to an end when it debates legislation this week tying new war funds to troop withdrawals, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday.

The legislation, similar to a bill President George W. Bush vetoed earlier this year, “gives voice to the concerns of the American people” over a war that is now in its fifth year and “with no light at the end of the tunnel,” Pelosi, a California Democrat, said.

As early as Friday, the House will debate the plan that would give Bush only $50 billion of the $196 billion in new funds he has asked for to continue fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of the money would go to Iraq.

The House repeatedly this year has passed legislation aimed at ending the Iraq war, only to see it die in the Senate or killed by Bush.

Congress is expected to consider the rest of the funding sometime next year.

Pelosi said the money would fund the war for another four months. But as they have done in the past, House Democrats will try to attach conditions requiring the Pentagon to immediately begin withdrawing some of the 169,000 troops in Iraq and with the goal of completing the withdrawal by December, 2008.

Pelosi sidestepped a reporter’s question on whether congressional support for the idea has grown enough to overturn an inevitable veto by Bush.

“Why the violence has declined in Iraq.” The conclusion:

Officials are cautiously optimistic about the trends of the last two months, but they are quick to caveat the improvement in security. The long-term danger of an al Qaeda resurgence remains a possibility, as al Qaeda in Iraq remains a significant franchise of the broader terrorist network safely based in Pakistan, which it’s believed will attempt to resupply and redouble its efforts to destabilize Iraq. Officials stress that continued momentum is required to solidify gains, specifically maintained targeting of extremist groups, successful border interdiction, the official employment of a portion of CLCs in the Iraqi Security Forces and, most importantly, a mid-term commitment to American brokerage of reconciliation between the national government and tribal and former insurgent groups

It seems that Nancy is more concerned for her neighbors being harrassed by Code Pink than for the safety and security of this nation and the people of Iraq.

In the meantime, Exclusive: FBI: Al Qaeda May Strike U.S. Shopping Malls in LA, Chicago

The FBI is warning that al Qaeda may be preparing a series of holiday attacks on U.S. shopping malls in Los Angeles and Chicago, according to an intelligence report distributed to law enforcement authorities across the country this morning. (Click here for full text.)

The alert said al Qaeda “hoped to disrupt the U.S. economy and has been planning the attack for the past two years.”

Law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com that the FBI received the information in late September and declassified it yesterday for wide distribution.

I am not sure that the Democrats truely grasp the fact that AQ is not going to go away if we ignore them. That strategy was tried in the 90’s and look what it got us!

    2nd try to post this…

Good for her! it just demonstrates to the voters how screwed up the Democrites are, how wrong, how diametrically-opposed to America they have positioned themselves.

Now if they were half as smart as they think they are, they would claim their pressure motivated a change in strategy and tactics and take responsibility for the good news.

They could hijack the credit for the improvement, yet still keep the ability to attack if this doesn’t pan out after all.

    But they are dolts.

Well you have Joe Lieberman getting up there and telling everyone the truth of his former party. I firmly believe the dems need more Liebermans to look up to. Zell Miller was a great dem as well. Whatever happened to those?

Geesh, I just never thought I’d see the day when a party calling themselves Democrats actually WANTED America to lose in the world.

I’ll have to tell my girls to avoid the malls this holiday season.

We might get things straightened out if a few congresscritters die in an AQ attack.

If gas prices keep going up the way they have been, there might not be anybody at the malls anyway.

$3.35/gallon here and no end in sight.

If the Petraeus strategy cements over the longer term, look for the Democrats to defund the war over the spring/early summer in an attempt to salvage the Presidency.

If the Petraues strategy works, it will be bad news for the Democrats. They are betting on a loss, and are now trying to portray it as a fore gone conclusion.

Reps, you have an uphill battle as they control the media. That shapes 90% of the public perception.

I happen to think you may be off on that one Ted. While it’s true the dems control the media I also believe that many Americans are now beginning to realize that and get their news elsewhere. I for one never take anything first story told. I listen to different takes, different sides, and sometimes get the opinions of the blogs.

Thinking for oneself is harder but without question I think that’s what’s happening.

I also believe that one of the reasons the democrats are so low in the opinion polls is precisely because of their negative, defeatist, lets lose attitude.

“Thinking for oneself is harder but without question I think that’s what’s happening.”

I don’t. I think the vast majority of Americans are sheeple. That is why both parties suck, we can’t get decent candidates and why the complacency of Americans is leading to the downfall of America.

I agree with Ted. Remember the old saying:

There are three kinds of people. Those who make things happen, those who watch them happen, and those who ask what happened.

I think there is actually a fourth and growing category: Those who have no awareness that anything has happened.

The last two groups are now in the majority in America. If they know or care at all, they are easily manipulated by propaganda and sound-byte politics. They are utterly unwilling to do or incapable of idependent analysis; instead their limited consciousness is filled with popular idiot culture. That’s why you have MSM lead network news stories about Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears while real news stories about things that will have profound impact on our lives are ignored.

Sadly you guys may be right but I remember back in the day when I was young. I was so busy with raising my child and having enough money to put food on the table I didn’t follow politics very closely. Having said that, whenever the elections came up I made sure I took the time to read about the candidates positions, their promises, their successes and failures, etc. so that I would make a good choice. Watching the debates was a given.

Being older and having more hindsight I’m glad I voted Republican as their economic policies were more advantageous to me and the Democrats policies actually hurt the purse.

Let’s hope that todays youth and young adults take time out each election cycle to educate themselves as well. It’s our best hope to protect this country.
