Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

SCHIP Depends On Smokers…SO….Congress Aims to Extinguish Cigarettes

It makes perfect sense if you are an idiot. Keep in mind that I am a smoker. I look for deals at $5.00 per pack. Without further ado, I present to you our elected officials plan:

  • Congress is taking new whacks at the cigarette industry, banning tobacco sales in Senate buildings and – more importantly – seeking a significant federal tax increase on cigarettes.
  • House and Senate negotiators are trying to craft a veto-proof version of the bill. President Bush says he would veto it because it calls for a 61 cents-per-pack increase in the federal excise tax on cigarettes, taking it to $1.
  • Did you catch that? They gave up their cigarette machines on work premises, which, if I’m not mistaken, the rest of the country did roughly 10 years ago.

61 cent increase? That’s just the fed’s. States have increased sales taxes on cigarettes 73 times since 2000. When this is all said and done, I’ll be paying roughly $7.00 per pack. I smoke 5 packs per week. That equals $140.00 per month. Out of pocket expenses for CHANTIX would cost me $120.00 month without my health insurance or $5.00 with insurance. Anyway I look at it, I save money by quitting.

Only in America, would such an incompetant Senate and Congress come up with a plan to finance a project this way. The smoking funds were never there to begin with, let alone the ignorance of boasting that SCHIP would be paid for by a deadly habit.

As I said, this makes perfect sense, if you are an idiot!

Sounds like a Democrite-led initiative. Most of what the Democrites do or try to do makes sense only to an idiot.

You should stop smoking, Pam. It will cause your death far too early and your children will have years of nightmares about that. Believe me- I know what I’m talking about…

I really am going to try CHANTIX….I am at the point where I have cut the smoking in half but I still smoke…I am at the point where I actually want to quit, and I think I’ll be more successful if I try now.

Have you heard the flip side of this? There’s a rumor that they are actually encouraging senior citizens to continue or take up smoking as a means to keep the cigarette taxes rolling in. Aren’t these the same nutjobs who have been so adament about their support for people on fixed incomes? I know this is the same party that has been so actively supported by the AARP. The same AARP who refuses to acknowledge that the only true means for an elderly person to defend themselves against an intruder is a handgun while supporting the party that wants to disarm their members.
