Great News: Americans Have Record High STDs

By: Pam On: Nov/14/07 - 25 Comments
  • 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year ” the most ever reported for a sexually transmitted disease
  • Gonorrhea rates are jumping again after hitting a record low
  • Syphilis is rising, too. The rate of congenital syphilis ” which can deform or kill babies ” rose for the first time in 15 years.
  • Health officials don’t know exactly how many superbug cases there were among the more than 358,000 gonorrhea cases reported in 2006. But a surveillance project of 28 cities found that 14 percent were resistant to ciprofloxacin and other medicines in the fluoroquinolones class of antibiotics.

I’ll take solution #2. This ‘free love, anything goes’ society simply isn’t working. Not having any guidance on an issue like this when I was growing up and ending up with a child at 16 I can tell you from experience what’s needed to alleviate a problem like this and it’s not passing out birth control or condoms to the young.

When a family, school or church teaches abstinence they are teaching self respect, motivation to do something for society that’s bigger than their needs, and other positive things. The bright side is these kinds of diseases as well as unwanted pregnancies will be eliminated. Just think of the cost benefits in just those things?

This is a pefect example of a failed liberal philosophy.

      “Free love for all.”

The walk into it without due consideration of the negative impact, or they marghinalize it and thus the responsibilties entailed are taken for granted.

So the result of “Free love” is higher STD’s and unwanted pregancies. In the case if STD’s, instead of a real soulution such as abstainance they impart screening and create a myth of protection via condemns. So a report like this comes out and they say things like this:

“CDC officials say the chlamydia record may not be all bad news: They think the higher number is largely a result of better and more intensive screening.Yawn:”

So they are cheering the “better screening” abilities and attributing the rise to it instead of recognizing the problem and any real solution to the problem: reversing the failed philosophy. Instead, they cheer their failures, just like in the quote above and don’t recognize with those freedoms come responsibility. These resp0onsibilities bneed taught, not “yawned” upon.

Ted, couldn’t their numbers be turned against them based on their own logic? These numbers are based on reported cases…always have been…in reality, the situation is probably far worse.

“Ted, couldn’t their numbers be turned against them based on their own logic?”

Of course they can be, and just the fact that this is posted is testimony to that fact.

But my point is that this is just an example of what is wrong with many liberals. It is true they’ve had good ideas that have contributed to society, but they tend to cling to the failed ideas also like a child clinging to a horribly soiled teddy bear.

      IMO, THAT is thier weakness.

      the culture war goes on…

…at least get your terms straight.

the free love movement is over. has been for decades.

however, the Sexual Revolution lives on.

teens having sex is nothing new. it’s what humans are essentially programed to do.

what needs to happen is teens need to be given the education and the tools to be healthy and happy.

what doesn’t need to happen is to try to turn sexualti into something to be feared, or to restrict natural human behavior.

      regarding the higher STD rates…

From what I’ve heard, the rise seems to be a product of larger amounts of people being tested.

Want to cut down on STDs? Show kids in their sex ed classes exactly what a Syphilis or other STD infected penis looks like. Even better would be one with what they used to call the “bullheaded clap”. My neighbor when I was going through OBC was a medic at the Ft Sill Base Hospital. Before being transferred to pediatrics, he said they used to have a couple of cases a week come in among the enlistees who were hitting the brothels in Lawton while on weekend liberty. The infection would cause the penis to fill with puss and swell the urethra shut. While antibiotics would kill the infection, the puss would have to be drained to permit urination. The two approved methods of draining were a barbed catheter, or a mallet and a stainless exam table. The very implications of those two treatment options is enough to put most teenage boys off the idea of having sex. While I’m sure that Sex Ed course tell everyone how wonderfully safe sex is as long as you use condoms, do they ever tell that condoms fail on an almost regular basis?

I wonder how many times the hammer and steel table was Rx’d for Mattias and the nurse hit Mattias’ cranium instead.

“”free love”??? LOL:what’s the matter with you people?!That is SUCH an outdated concept/practice:What are you guys, 50+ years old???”

A perfect example…this marginalization just as I illustrated in post 6.

“teens having sex is nothing new. it’s what humans are essentially programed to do. what needs to happen is teens need to be given the education and the tools to be healthy and happy.”

Another perfect example, this time of not recognizing the problem so they can’t find real solutions.

These statements were predicable. It was one of the reasons why I quoted SFL in my initial post because I knew I’d get these responses. They served wonderfully to illustrate my point.

In other words, the issue here isn’t the STD’s, the screening results or what it means. The issue here is clinging to failed perspectives. There is nothing wrong with trying something new, I encourage such adventurism and revolutionary thought. The issue is when you trying something and it fails, not recognizing it as a failure or mistake. I teach this to my children, and my 13 year old knows it well: “It not the mistake that you make but how you handle that mistake is what counts.”.

“however, the Sexual Revolution lives on.”

This is another ironic point. Liberal gufaw at the terms of “War on Terror” and “War on Drugs” yet use the same types of terms as this, as this example illustrates.

      “Sexual Revolution”.

What? The problem has been clearly recognized in the topic heading.

Americans are still getting infected with these preventable STD’s.

And regarding solutions, I had already listed a few.

      Soooo…
