A point I would like to add to that Robert is that just about a month ago, 60 Minutes tried to say that Christians had to hide etc..ever since the fall of Saddam. I pointed out a few problems with the piece..

Yes Christians are targets, but they have been going to Church in droves and this particular mass was held early simply because of the threat of violence upon any person out after dark..Christians, Muslims, Republicans..;)

SFL the point is that after the fall of Saddam, and the influx of Al Qaeda and other terrorists, plus the Islamic militias, that Christians have been severely persecuted in Iraq. There are many sources for this.

However now Iraq has stabilized greatly and Christians are now free to worship openly. It is a yardstick, a bellwhether, of the progress made in Iraq.

But of course you'd then have to acknowledge the new strategy is working there...

"SFL your post does not address the point"that they are Christians and are able to practice their faith without fear because of their religion."

------------

Robert, Christians in Iraq have gone to mass on Christmas eve for ages.

Tariq Aziz, the foreign minister under Saddam, was a Christian.

You DID know this, didn't you?

3, Robert, because it doesn't further SFL's need to surrender in Iraq and turn the US into a Socialist Hellhole like Zimbabwe.

SFL your post does not address the point---that they are Christians and are able to practice their faith without fear because of their religion.

Why can't you stay on topic?

They had the mass in the middle of the day, not because they are Christians, but because the area still poses a threat after dark to any and all that are out and about...

"Bbbbbut I thought they had to sneak in order to get to mass?"

-----------------

Well they kind of did, actually. (!)

We're not out of the woods yet by a long shot.

from the article...

"...go through checkpoints and streets lined with blast walls.........Venturing out in large numbers late at night in Baghdad is still unthinkable, so the capital's Christians celebrated midnight Mass in the middle of the afternoon on Christmas Eve........Everyone is still afraid to go out," he said. "Even small animals are afraid of the danger."
