Republicans Making Gains While Edwards Threatens To Pull Out The Troops That Are Training The Iraqis

That sounds like a winning strategy for a loser! Good luck with that one! By the way…According to a new Rasmussen poll: The number of Americans who consider themselves to be Republicans jumped nearly two percentage points in December to 34.2%. That’s the largest market share for the Republican brand in nearly two years :( h/t to memeorandum)

Ed:

The realignment comes at a “startling” time, Rasmussen notes. The report also suggests this as a reaction to the performance of Democrats in Congress. Nancy Pelosi has only a 38% approval rating, compared to 49% at the start of the year, suggesting that independents have lost confidence in her leadership, and possibly some Democrats. They note the sharp increase in December as a corollary to the improving confidence in the war on terror, which also suggests that the electorate may exact a price on Democrats for their strident defeatism throughout most of 2007.

Betsy’s Page:

This could just be a one-month anomaly or it could be the start of a trend. Or at least an indication that Republicans who had inched away from the party in 2006 are returning now that they’ve seen what the Democrats have done when they’re in control on Capitol Hill. I think that all the terrible poll results for imaginary races for the presidency between an unidentified Republican and Democrat are really indicative of nothing. Once names get filled in and we know who is going against whom this year and the campaigns get started trying to define each other, we’ll be able to get a more reasonable picture of where the electorate stands. Right now, the difference between party ID is about where it was in January 2004 when Democrats had a 2.3% edge compared to the 2.1% edge they have now. Considering that the difference was as high as 6.9% a year ago, we might indeed be getting back to a sort of stasis of where the parties stand in relation to each other.

  1. Question: Will the SF dingbats vote out a sitting speaker of the house, Pelosi? That would make it that the last 2 Democrat speakers were defeated for their House seat. Think about it.

  2. I have a really good feeling about this election. With the Iraq war finally getting some good press and people realizing just how badly the democrats are running things and of course the ever present threat of terrorist attacks a republican has got to win the presidency and control again in the congress.

  3. BonBon I hope you’re right. And hopefully that will be a Conservative Republican. I’m sick of these RINOs.

  4. I’m sick of the RINOs like Arlen Sphincter.

  5. Edwards—what an empty suit! He just looks so wonderful, with his $1200 haircut that would make most women blush. But there’s absolutely nothing behind the facade.

He’s nothing but a parasite who got rich suing others. I can’t think of a worse type of person to lead this country through the very difficult circumstances we are in.

Well, maybe a lying, manipulative, conpletely self-centered shrew who long ago sold her soul for political advantage…

On the other side of the aisle, we too have a good feeling about this coming election.

    Especially on the congressional races.

BonBon, there is almost no chance whatsoever that your party will retake control of congress in 2008. If I were you, I’d write that one off right now.

As for the presidency, the only Republican that I am worried about winniing is…McCain.

He won’t win Iowa, but watch what he does in the races soon to follow. My money is on him making HUGE gains in the next few months.

Worse comes to worse, you guys can have the presidency. When we gain more seats in congress, hopefully the 60 needed to shut your team down in congress, who sits in the Oval Office won’t get anything by without the approval of the Dems. That goes for SCOTUS nominations, too.

  7. The difference between you and me SFL is that you think it’s all a game and the winner takes all. I look at things such as our national security, terrorist threats and overall economic success. Republicans smack down dems in every way in that respect. God help us if the dems stay in control.

  8. SFL as dumber then the dumbists dummy:))

Actually BonBon, it hasn’t been that way for years…here is a link that shows that Dems are trusted more on most issues that matter to Americans.
    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/trust_on_issues/trust_on_issues

More voters trust Democrats (46%) than Republicans (41%) to shape economic policy.

On Health Care, Democrats have an eight-point advantage, with 46% trusting the Democrats more, 38% trusting the Republicans more.

Democrats also have an edge on Corruption, 41% to 29%.

However BonBon, I’ll admit you have us on terrorism. Your party is good at either scaring people or attracting scared people. Good job.

  10. “God help us if the dems stay in control.”

Except, the Democrats aren’t in control.

They have congress, but the majority is so far too small to really affect any national policy. They can’t even end the filthy, disgraceful Iraq War which is what many were elected to do.

No, BonBon, sadly the Dems can’t control shit right now, which is why I’m so excited for 2008 elections. We’re SURE to gain more seats in congress – maybe enough to actually get something done or stand up to a possible republican president, if worse comes to worse.

  11. Most of the democrite leadership should be in prison, imo.
