Is Hillary Going To Drop Out?

By: Pam On: Jan/7/08 - 4 Comments

Drudge had the siren going for this:

Facing a double-digit defeat in New Hampshire, a sudden collapse in national polls and an expected fund-raising drought, Senator Hillary Clinton is preparing for a tough decision: Does she get out of the race? And when?!

“She can’t take multiple double-digit losses in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada,” laments one top campaign insider to the DRUDGE REPORT. “If she gets too badly embarrassed, it will really harm her. She doesn’t want the Clinton brand to be damaged with back-to-back-to-back defeats.”

Meanwhile, Democrat hopeful John Edwards has confided to senior staff that he is staying in the race because Hillary “could soon be out.”

“Her money is going to dry up,” Edwards confided, a top source said Monday morning.

Key players in Clinton’s inner circle are said to be split. James Carville is urging her to fight it out through at least February and Super Tuesday, where she has a shot at thwarting Barack Obama in a big state.

“She did not work this hard to get out after one state! All this talk is nonsense,” said one top adviser.

But others close to the former first lady now see no possible road to victory, sources claim.

Developing…

[The dramatic reversal of fortunes has left the media establishment stunned and racing to keep up with fast-moving changes.

In its final poll before Iowa, CNN showed Clinton with a two-point lead over Obama. Editorial decisions were being made based on an understanding the Democratic primary race would be close, explained a network executive.]

Memeorandum is abuzz with the news that Hillary became weepy today. She isn’t out yet, but I can imagine she is frustrated. I don’t think that it dawned on her that America is ready to move on from both the Bushs’ and the Clinton’s. One important factor that seems to be missed daily is the fact that she takes Michigan as her name is the only one on the ballot!

How can she think it’s over when there hasn’t been but one real contest in the race? It appears to me that her internal polling apparatus – judged to be the best in the business – has likely given her the bad news; the race has passed her by and the Obama bandwagon is getting farther ahead.

There is a difference between the public polls, or “snapshots” put out by Gallup and Rasmussen and the internal polling done by campaigns. The behind the scenes polling is more of a survey operation where the pollsters examine trends in addition to raw numbers. The difference is that trends are a helluva lot more difficult to reverse. I would guess that the Obama surge has been on the radar for a while now in one way or another and more importantly, the slippage in support among key demographics has also been noted for some time. Like a snowball rolling downhill that reaches a cliff and falls off, Obama’s surge before and after Iowa shows a steady erosion of her position and then freefall.

Michelle Malkin: “All together now: Boo-freaking-hoo.”

Ed:

Given Hillary’s history of planting questions, how likely is this to be a spontaneous exhibition? She’s tanking in New Hampshire because of Barack Obama’s perceived warmth. All of a sudden a freelance photographer asks her how she maintains her composure, and she cries for herself and for her nation? Ehh, that’s a couple of coincidences too many.

I think SFL will get his wish that Obama gets the nomination..but alas he will lose the election;)

Has anyone else noticed that Edwards seems to by vying for another VP nod? He has his head so far up Obama it isn’t even funny anymore..

Here’s my prediction, and I have been saying this for more than a day, when just after the Iowa results the headlines were screaming about whether HilLiary will drop out:

No, hell no she won’t drop out. She has been running for President for 8 years. This is HER job, she is entitled to it. She sold her soul to the Devil for this.

What is being discussed in the Klinton camp right now is not whether to quit. It is how to regain some initiative, and it is how and when to unleash the smear campaign on Obama. They know they have to be careful, because it could backfire. But you know they’ve got dirt on Obama even he’s probably forgotten about. They have to find a way to carefully leak information in a planned, controlled, untraceable way. They have lots of allies in the MSM and elsewhere to help and the Klinton smear machine is extremely capable and experienced.

She won’t be able to resist it. This is what the Klintons do, what they are best at, it is their game! Even if it is a huge risk, what the hell. I believe if she feels she has nothing to lose then there will be absolutely no reason to hold back.

But it won’t even take that. Again, this is who the Klintons are. It’s how they play, and they are street fighters, down and dirty. No blow is too low.

She’ll wound Obama, not destroy him, but attack enough to weaken him. Then she’ll emerge on top with the nomination and magnanimously offer Obama the VP slot. She’ll portray it as genuine, generous, and spin it for all the phony publicity she can get (the race card, ad nauseum). Then it will be her and Obama. That is a vastly more attractive and powerful combination than HilLiary and the Breck Girl, or anyone else.

HilLiary will be heralded by the MSM, she’ll get credit she doesn’t deserve even as she condemns those evil Republicans who tried to smear her running mate Obama (when it was her campaign that did it, but arch-hypocrisy is the stock in trade for these Democrites and especially for the Klintons).

Thta’s my prediction and I am sticking to it. I predict the future by looking at the past. People’s nature is revealed by their actions, and there is plenty of data on the Klintons.
