Hillary’s Econ Plan:Emergency Housing and Heating Assistance for Struggling Democrats.

The elements of the package, as described by the campaign are listed below. In looking at the list, I couldn’t help but think of the proverbial plantation. Look at the entitlements:

  • ” Establishing a $30 billion Emergency Housing Crisis Fund to assist states and cities in mitigating the effects of foreclosures: “Her $30 billion fund would provide immediate, time-limited resources to states, cities and community organizations to help prevent unnecessary foreclosures. States and communities could also use the funds to offset the costs associated with vacant properties by supporting efforts like community-level anti-blight programs and helping local housing authorities buy up vacant properties and rent them to working families.”
  • What is an unnecessary foreclosure? More public housing?

  • ” Providing $25 billion in emergency energy assistance for families facing skyrocketing heating bills: “The grants will the purchasing power of energy assistance to where it was five years ago. And they will ensure that hardworking families and seniors on fixed incomes will not have to choose between heating their homes, putting food on the table or purchasing prescription drugs this winter.”
  • Michigan already provides this:

The Home Heating Credit (HHC) is designed to assist low income families living in Michigan with the cost of heating their homes. The HHC is federally funded through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Under provisions set forth in the State Income Tax Act, the Department of Human Services (DHS) administers Michigan’s Energy Assistance programs, and the Michigan Department of Treasury processes the Home Heating Credit claim and issues payments. For further information, please refer to the LIHEAP website.

  • ” Accelerating $5 billion in energy efficiency and alternative energy investments to jump-start green collar job growth: “The immediate actions that could be part of a 2008 stimulus could include a crash weatherization program to cut home energy costs by up to 20 percent this winter; expanded tax credits to encourage families and businesses to accelerate purchases of hybrids and other low-emission vehicles and to reduce energy costs by purchasing efficient appliances, new windows and other clean, efficient technologies; and acceleration of a Green Building Fund and green collar job training program to put tens of thousands of people to work making schools and other public buildings energy efficient.”
  • Isn’t this The Energy Policy Act of 2005 ? That expired on January 31, 2007. Is she asking that it be extended?

  • ” Investing $10 billion in extending and broadening unemployment insurance for those who are struggling to find work: “By strengthening our unemployment insurance program and extending unemployment insurance for workers who are laid off for extended periods, this effort will empower more Americans to re-enter the labor market in good-paying jobs.”
  • Isn’t this the same thing as the $8 billion 13 week extension program that went into effect in 2002? Let’s talk about those struggling to find work. My sister runs a temp agency and is struggling to find qualified workers. By qualified, I mean that they must be able to pass a drug test, or the Social Security card that they present must be their own. A qualified worker must show up for their scheduled shift, not when they feel like it.

This is pandering with a twist. There isn’t anything new to the plan. Bryan brought up another troubling aspect of Hillary’s knack to say ‘just the right thing’:
Hillary plays gender politics with illegal immigration: “No woman is illegal,” Clinton said, to cheers.

    6. Here’s a better plan. Tell lenders that they are on their own. Tell them to work it out with the homeowners or eat the properties which will only plummet in value if the number of foreclosures goes up. Banks are profit driven, that’s what got them into this mess in the first place. If the home owner could afford the payment at a lower rate, simply rewrite the loan fixed at the lower rate. To recoup some of the lost interest, rewrite it for a full 30 years. Do NOT make any more idiotic interest only, or 40 year mortgages. Honestly some of these lenders have been VERY unscrupulous. I received a good faith estimate on an ARm, that I almost laughed at. I emailed my mortgage broker and asked if he thought I was @#$%^& stupid enough to agree to such an idiotic loan. Apparently he did, because it was the only offer he presented. I think his other lenders went south on him because this happened just about the time that a lot of lenders folded due to the bad loans they were writing.
