Jessica, which branch of the service is he in and what is his rank? Typically, those affected by Stop Loss, are "NCOs (usually squad and team leaders about to be discharged, or senior ones about to retire) and technicians. The NCOs were critical in combat, the glue that held units together. Replacing these leaders just before a unit ships out to a combat zone, leaves troops with unfamiliar replacement leaders, which leads to mistakes, and dead soldiers. Those affected usually served another few months, or as much as a year.

Stop Loss has been part of the enlistment contract since the 1970s. Basically, troops take on an eight year obligation when they enlist, even if the specified period of active service is only three or four years. Normally, the rest of the obligation is served in the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve), which usually requires no contact with the military. Thus, at the end of three or four years, troops receive a document saying they have been "released from active service." Four or five years later, they get their discharge. It's just another example of why you should always read the fine print."

I'm actually a democrat and stumbled across this while researching a little. I actually agree with this, but for different reasons. Stop loss is a very real threat to my family. My husband is currently in Iraq and after his tour and he finishes his contract, he wants very much to go and use the college money he's getting from his service. Unfortunately at this time, there is about a 50% or slightly higher chance he'll be stop lossed at the end of his service. When this movie came out, it was splashed all over the media and thrown in the faces of the families who actually have to deal with that threat. And regardless of my political stance, the idea of another 15 months wondering if the worst is going to happen is not something I want to be reminded over and over might come to pass.

YEP..BOYCOTT THEM ALL...
THEY NEED TO STICK TO THEIR LITTLE
SONG AND DANCES AND SHUT UP. WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR THEIR VIEWS BECAUSE THEY ARE BASICALLY SELF INDULGENT, DISOBEDIENT, UNRULY CHILDREN. THEY ARE THE ONES THAT ARE STILL SEEKING HIGH SCHOOL POPULARITY...THEY JUST CAN'T SEEM TO OUTGROW THEIR NEED OF IT. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!
Emmy's 2008:
Producers reportedly asked celebs not to talk politics on stage, but from Stephen Colbert comparing the current prez and a potential future prez to a prune, to a somewhat obscure crack about Hannity and Colmes, to a Smothers brother rambling on about censorship (we think), to Tom Hanks dropping a less-than-subtle hint about his Pro-Obama stance, the stars got all political up in this joint.

Snowy is that a wild turkey or a domestic one? Wild turkeys are very intelligent and have color vision. Domestic turkeys are so stupid that they can't leave them outside in a rain storm or they can drown from looking up with their mouths open.

One founding father was asked which form of government he'd prefer and replied "A republic if we can keep it." That becomes ever so clairvoyant when one takes into account how the politicians in DC are buying votes with pork paid for with taxpayer dollars with little or no regard for how that action is destroying this country. The legislative branch of this country has adopted the "Bread and Circuses" mentality of the Roman Senate with possibly the same results, much to the pleasure of the Liberals. Then again, Thomas Jefferson said that a revolution every couple of hundred years is a good thing.

Screw Hollywood. It won't take too many millions of dollars lost before they finally get the picture. Of course these are the same morons that stop production of an Ahhhnold film about the crusades to fund production of "Cutthroat Island" because we all know that Geena Davis pirate movie would bring in more than an Ahhnold sword and armor movie. Didn't these idiots see the box office receipts from the Conan flicks?

Exactly who are to blame if the military is short staffed? The Democrats and the oh so wonderful BJ Billy Clinton's administration that drove people out of the military and refused to allow prior service people to return to it. He "Loathed" the military and his actions showed it. Too bad that the people paying for his actions are the brave men and women who actually took their oath of to protect and defend this country a lot more seriously than he did. Of course he also took an oath to be faithful to his wife and another one to tell the truth, he didn't keep either of those either.

In the old days it was called "OP Hold" I came close to it and then I re-enlisted.
Holly wierd should stay away from anything military these days. They don't have the ability to take on anything in an objective manner. I am pushing the envelope on that, am I not?
