Will This Put The Waterboarding Tales To Rest?

By: Pam On: Feb/6/08 - 13 Comments

I doubt it, but a girl can dream can’t she?

Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri planned the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole. Abu Zubaydah was the mastermind of the foiled millennium terrorist attacks, which had Los Angeles airport as one of its targets. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed directed the September 11 attacks, and has claimed to have personally beheaded Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl.

All three men were captured by the CIA in 2002 and waterboarded in the course of their interrogations. They are also the only U.S. detainees to have been waterboarded. That fact, publicly confirmed yesterday by CIA Director Michael Hayden, shreds whatever is left to the so-called torture narrative, according to which the Bush Administration has engaged in widespread, needless and systematic torture of detainees.

Instead, we have sworn public testimony that the waterboarding was conducted against the three individuals best positioned to know about impending terrorist atrocities. The interrogations took place when a second major terrorist attack was widely seen as inevitable. And we know that the waterboarding of Abu Zubaydah helped lead to the capture of KSM, and to the foiling of an active terrorist plot against the United States.
The waterboarding was conducted by intelligence professionals who understood they were operating not only with the approval of the Justice Department but also the informed consent of key Congressional leaders, including Democrat Jay Rockefeller, then the ranking minority Member on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

A grand total of three people have been waterboarded! What happened to the hundred’s if not thousands that we waterboard on a daily basis? Who is destroying our reputaion abroad?

Libel and Slander are the principle weapons of the American Left. Watch SFL defend slandering and libeling the country as long as it hurts President Bush.

Waterboarding has clearly shown itself to be a very useful, productive tool. I say if there is useful intel to be gained, then waterboard away!

I heard some moron call into a radio talk show and babble about how “information obtained through coerced interrogation (torture) isn’t reliable anyway” and therefore waterboarding or any other form of “torture” should never be done. This is of course a standard talking point line that sounds real good and so gets repeated endlessly, but is utterly ignorant.

Anyone who has been trained as an investigator knows that anytime you talk to someone, whether it is casual questioning or full interrogation, they may not be telling hte truth. There are techniques for dealing with this. What you do is start by asking questions you already know the answer to. Start with simple questions, then gradualy get more complex. You can very quickly tell if someone is lying. You can also tell when they are to the point they are spilling everything (as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed eventually did). Statements can also be verified independently.

So the hate-America, blame-America Leftists like ChapaTraitor Kennedy should STFU about interrogation and Intel, something they show by their utterings they know absolutely nothing about.

And call Waterboarding torture if you want, ChapaTraitor. I don’t give a damn; whatever, if it provides good Intel and helps us and saves American and other lives, then bring it on…

(PCD had a home run when he referred to ChapaTraitor’s botched “waterboarding” of Mary Joe Kopechne at Chappaquidick)

Once again you Neocons revert to violence to gain your objectives. You would be right at home in the Spanish inquisition, when hundreds of thousands of innocent people were tortured and murdered to satisfy the bloodlust of your right-wing christian domination. Or perhaps in the Salem witch trials. In both cases people confessed to anything and everything at the hands of the torurers.

Wikipedia defines waterboarding as torture. The International Community and the U.N. have all eschewed and condemned the use of torture. You’d really just like to torture some Iraqi farmer, wrongly detained, until he confesses to hiding Saddam’s WMDs, wouldn’t you! Then Bush-Halliburton would be validated and you could all say you told us so, right?

Fortunately we have Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Durbin, Sen. Kerry and other true heroes to hold the line against Neocon militancy. We must reject all of that, submit to the judgement of the International Community and the U.N., and reject nationalism if we are ever to be once again accepted by the French!

And why has the Kyoto treaty not been signed and implemented? The Neocons are dooming the planet to extinction. You are worse than the dinosaurs!

    New drinking game

John McCain will speak at CPAC, the grassroots conservative conference, tomorrow. A good time to take a slight break from this political campaign season, or at least deaden our senses to the pain that may be inflicted upon us soon.

McCain at CPAC, will it be enough?

Words and more words, but what of actions? No doubt McCain will try to reach out to conservatives. After all, we’ve only go two eyes to poke at and he already did that some time ago. But a speech is a very difficult way …

I’m all for treating the terrorist in accordance with the Geneva Conventions. The Geneva Conventions define them as illegal enemy combatants. As such they are entitled to a military tribunal to determine their status and if found guilty of being an illegal enemy combatant, they may be executed at the leisure of the convening authoriry. Personally, I think I’d waterboard them all in pig’s blood. REALLY make a statement that we’re tired of their crap. I worked wonders for Black Jack Pershing during the Philippine insurrection.
