For its first 150 years, the Democratic Party selected its presidential nominee in a proverbial smoke-filled room, with delegates picked by party bosses.

And what is the point of this WaPo Article? It seems that the only party that didn’t change was the Democratic party. Why bring the Republicans into their mess?
