San Francisco decided to take it up a notch:

San Francisco’s “sanctuary” policy for illegal immigrants, which has drawn sharp criticism from conservatives, will be promoted in an advertisement campaign complete with multilanguage brochures and radio and TV public service announcements.

The city-funded outreach campaign is expected to roll out this spring and build on San Francisco’s response to last year’s federal immigration raids, which city officials said scared undocumented immigrants into not accessing city services, reporting crimes or sending children to school.

City officials Wednesday were not able to provide The Examiner with a cost breakdown for the campaign.

“We have worked with the Board of Supervisors, Department of Public Health, labor and immigrant rights groups to create a city government-wide public awareness campaign so that immigrants know The City won’t target them for using city services,” said Nathan Ballard, Mayor Gavin Newsom’s spokesman.

In 1989, the Board of Supervisors adopted legislation enacting a “sanctuary city” policy, which instructs local law enforcement and city departments not to assist federal authorities in enforcement of federal immigration laws. The policy is backed by Newsom and members of the Board of Supervisors.

After last year’s raids, Newsom publicly reaffirmed The City’s sanctuary policy and directed departments to ensure employees are trained in accordance with it.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who is working on the planned outreach campaign to undocumented immigrants, said it will ensure “a lot of deserving people” take advantage of city services. “To me, it’s a logical follow-through.”

The announcements will feature Newsom and other city officials, according to meeting minutes from The City’s Immigrant Rights Commission.

The latest proposal is another action making San Francisco “the most flamboyant city in the country when it comes to working against federal immigration laws,” said Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center of Immigration, a Washington, D.C., think tank favoring tougher enforcement of federal immigration laws.

Here are some contacts from the Sanctuary State:

Nancy Pelosi
Barbara Boxer
Dianne Feinstein

Thought some would appreciate this from Melanie Morgan:

“While we were at the protest in Berkeley from 12 to 4 PM a white volvo drove by and a man spat upon code pink. They chased him down the street and got into a verbal altercation. The police were NO WHERE in sight. That’s not the best part, ready for this? Medea Benjamin yelled and I quote “Marines!” she actually yelled for our help because this man had stepped out of his car. Lol. I even asked her if she was yelling Police and she told me “I said Marines” then put her arm around my friend Allen (the Marine vet) Ironic? Ok back to the emails!! “

Cut their funding off!

And while I am on a rant, tell San Fran Nan what she can do with this letter:

The Honorable Michael B. Mukasey
The Attorney General
U.S. Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W
Washington, D.C. 20530-0001

Dear Mr. Attorney General:

In accordance with 2 U.S.C. § 194 and the attached House Resolution 979 (adopted on February 14, 2008), I have today sent a certification to the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeffrey Taylor, advising him of the failure of former White House Counsel, Harriet Miers, to appear, testify and produce documents in compliance with a duly issued subpoena of a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee and of the failure of Joshua Bolten, White House Chief of Staff and custodian of White House documents, to produce documents in his custody as required by a duly issued subpoena of the House Judiciary Committee.

Under section 194, Mr. Taylor is now required “to bring the matter before the grand jury for its action.” The appropriate grand jury action is a criminal charge for violation of 2 U.S.C. § 192, which provides: “Every person who having been summoned as a witness by the authority of either House of Congress to give testimony or to produce papers . . . willfully makes default . . . shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor” and shall be subject to a fine and “imprisonment in a common jail for not less than one month nor more than twelve months.”

According to the testimony of your predecessor, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and your recent testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, the Justice Department intends to prevent Mr. Taylor from complying with the statute and enforcing the contempt citations against Ms. Miers and Mr. Bolten. You claimed that “enforcement by way of contempt of a congressional subpoena is not permitted when the President directs a direct adviser of his: not to appear or when he directs any member of the executive not to produce documents.” Hearing on Oversight of the Dep’t of Justice Before the H. Comm. on the Judiciary, 110th Cong. 87-88 (Feb. 7, 2008). You purported to base your view on a “long line of authority,” but cited no court decision that supports this proposition.

There is no authority by which persons may wholly ignore a subpoena and fail to appear as directed because a President unilaterally instructs them to do so. Even if a subpoenaed witness intends to assert a privilege in response to questions, the witness is not at liberty to disregard the subpoena and fail to appear at the required time and place. Surely, your Department would not tolerate that type of action if the witness were subpoenaed to a federal grand jury. Short of a formal assertion of executive privilege, which cannot be made in this case, there is no authority that permits a President to advise anyone to ignore a duly issued congressional subpoena for documents.

Your press spokesman has stated that you will “act promptly” to review this matter and reach a final decision. We will appreciate your acting with appropriate dispatch on this important matter. I strongly urge you to reconsider your position and to ensure that our nation is operating under the rule of law and not at presidential whim. If, however, you intend to persist in preventing Mr. Taylor from carrying out his statutory obligation to present this matter to the grand jury in the District of Columbia, we respectfully request that you inform us of that decision within one week from today, so that the House may proceed with a civil enforcement suit in federal district court.

Thank your for your prompt consideration and attention to this matter.

best regards,

NANCY PELOSI
Speaker of the House

The undersigned, The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, pursuant to the attached House Resolution 979, One Hundred Tenth Congress, hereby certifies to you the failure and refusal of Harriet Miers, former White House Counsel, to appear, testify, and furnish certain documents in compliance with a subpoena before a duly constituted subcommittee of the House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary. The undersigned further certifies to you the failure and refusal of Joshua Bolten, White House Chief of Staff, to furnish certain documents in the custody of the White House in compliance with a subpoena before said committee. These failures and refusals are fully shown by the certified copy of the House Report 110-423 of said committee which is also hereto attached.

“…create a city government-wide public awareness campaign so that immigrants know The City won’t target them for using city services”

    Sounds reasonable to SFL.

We don’t want people dying because they are afriad to call 911…and women should understand that they will be protected by the police if they are threatened, hurt, etc…

Nah. No need to do anything to San Francisco. As soon as enough illegals occupy the city and the libs cause food and fuel prices to skyrocket, they’ll go rioting in the streets and burn the place to the ground. As the residents are essentially unarmed by their own government, they won’t be able to defend themselves against the marauding bands of Mexican criminals that will begin looting and burning the entire city to the ground. As for me, if it weren’t so far to drive, I’d take marshmallows and hot dogs.

That’s what should happen, FAO, but instead the illegals will just continue to suck more and more dollars out of the public coffers to pay for their services and crimes. The Feds will have to kick in more money from all of our taxes, and the (nearly bankrupt) State will have to come up with more and more as well.

Every time I hear another moron babbling about how we need their cheap labor I just want to slap some sense in to them. That “cheap” labor is heavily subsidized.

It is time for the government to cut off all federal funds to sanctuary cities. No one is above the law. It is also time to boycott Mexico until they help stop the flow across our borders. The illegal immigration invasion has drained our economy. NO MORE VACATIONS OR BUSINESS IN MEXICO. REPORT EVERY BUSINESS THAT HAS ILLEGAL WORKERS BY CALLING ICE.

I am sooo glad I move away from the SF Bay Area. The South Bay (San Jose) is already overrun by illegals. If San FranFreako does this, the whole area will be swamped.
