Where’s The Scandal: Revote donors linked to Clinton

So? Howard Dean said “We can’t afford to do that,” he said. “That’s not our problem. We need our money to win the presidential race.” To which Governor Granholm responded by saying that Michigan could not afford nor would it pay for a re-vote. It was then suggested that private funds be utilized to pay for the new primary. Is Fredreka Schouten suggesting that the private funds should have come from Republicans rather than Democrats? Is she really surprised that supporters of Hillary came up with the funds? What exactly was the point of the story? Where did she think the funds would come from?

Ten wealthy Democrats have offered to pay for a new presidential primary in Michigan ” all with ties to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who showed up in the state Wednesday seeking a revote.
Five of the donors are listed on Clinton’s campaign website as among her major fundraisers. All 10 have contributed to Clinton’s presidential or Senate campaigns or the races run by former president Bill Clinton, according to federal data compiled by the non-profit Center for Responsive Politics.

The Michigan revote donors ” including New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos and financier Roger Altman ” have offered to put up $12 million to pay for a new election in June.

Corzine and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, both Clinton backers, released the donors’ names in a letter to Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The letter was aimed at demonstrating support for a do-over, so the state’s voters could have a say in the hotly contested nomination battle. Barack Obama’s supporters in the state have raised questions about logistics and costs.

Private funds asked for, private funds raised. And? Oh, is this what the problem is?

Billionaire financier George Soros, an Obama supporter, declined Rendell’s request to help foot the bill for a Michigan revote.

Soros “does not support holding another primary in Michigan,” spokesman Michael Vachon said.

Maybe the author should have titled the piece: Revote donors linked to Clinton because Soros won’t allow Obama to agree to a revote

And by the way, I sincerely hope that Chuck Todd and Mark Murray’s second thought was that maybe they overstated what is going on with the donor list:

By the way, did the Clinton campaign err in sending the candidate to Michigan yesterday? Some supporters of the re-do in that state believe that her visit to the state — combined with the public release of the Clinton sugar daddies who promised to pony up $12 million — spooked some undecided lawmakers who were queasy about the prospect of the re-do looking like a totally Clinton-funded event. And as it turned out, Clinton was in Michigan pushing process, while Obama was having a debate with McCain about Iraq. It’s a rare day that Team Clinton took their eye off the message ball.

Err? Process? Message ball? Newsflash, millions of Michigan and Florida Democrats are being disenfranchised by the DNC. They are being told that they don’t matter today, but please send funds and we’ll see you before November because we really will need you then. Obama was debating McCain? Are they serious? McCain, nor his people debated Obama, they made Obama look like a child trying to get involved in an adult conversation.

  2. Wow…the party of SFL is a complete clusterfuck. How can he honestly subscribe to these people running this country?

  3. Ted, the sad thing is, there are really good people within the party, but the far left is running campaigns against them to unseat them. Which is another cause for Kos hate amongst the left..

  4. Pam,

I believe that there are common men and women within the party that do not subscibe to radical views of the far left like SFL seems to do. I firmly believe that these people do not mean harm- I do not subsribe that they suffer from “mental illness” like some folks on this website subscribes to. They are led by a message that they either do not understand, are too complacent to understand or are just plain lied to.

That said, these people are who empower the party. They are responsible for educating themselves and for taking a more cynical outlook upon the views they are force fed or just accept at face value. Thus no one is free from guilt about what is hapening within their party.

BTW, I believe that about Republicans too.

  5. 4- No, they don’t mean harm, and yes they can be found within both parties, just as the extremists can.
