Earlier this week, Carl Levin and Debbie Dingell pointed out an undiscussed problem with Dean’s decision to punish Michigan and Florida for moving their primaries up:
But last August, the New Hampshire secretary of state indicated he was going to schedule his state’s primary before the date specified, clearly defying the sequence and timing the party had set. Michigan Democratic leaders repeatedly asked the Democratic National Committee if it intended to penalize New Hampshire for this violation, but the committee refused to act.
Rather than allow this broken system to persist, we challenged it by deciding to apportion our delegates according to the results of a primary scheduled by the Michigan Legislature for Jan. 15.
The Democratic National Committee proceeded to selectively enforce its calendar rule. It gave New Hampshire a waiver to move from third to second place in the sequence. But Michigan and Florida, which had also moved up the date of its primary, were denied waivers. When Howard Dean, the party chairman, says that states should not be allowed to violate the rules, he ignores the fact that when the committee itself decided not to follow the rules and granted a waiver to New Hampshire, it set the stage for the present impasse.
Dean has consistently argued that the integrity of party rules is at stake, but one has to wonder at what cost. One also needs question why he decided not to punish New Hampshire.
I have spoken time and again about the superdelegates, but after reading this post, I am convinced that people just don’t understand why there are superdelegates in the Democratic party.

Howard Dean is a thorn in every one’s side, and quite frankly a dummy, that is why he lost in the last primary and stays bitter. Dean is another know it all, and no matter what took place, FL and MI voters should have a voice. I am sure if everything were re-done the votes would tell a different story. If any one votes for Obama now knowing full well he does not tell the truth and makes bad judgements they are full blown dummies. It’s said a sucker is born every second. Obama is making a sucker out of our government. I am amazed that people are so fooled by him?? Talk is cheap, and he will not do one thing he has promised. If he perchance gets the nomination, he will give us nothing but grief. (God forbid) I am believing for that not to happen, for all of our sakes. Mercy, Mercy!
