Here is a link to his opening statement. After hearing the testimony of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker, Levin proceeded to use the past ploys of the Democrats. In his Statement, the General said that “we undertake a 45-day period of consolidation and evaluation”, to which Levin tried, but failed to make it sound as if we are never leaving and we aren’t pressuring the Iraqis.
Crocker statements to note:
Ted Kennedy tries to blame Cheney:
![]()
Sen. Ted Kennedy just asked if the attack on Basra was discussed with Vice President Cheney during his recent visit to Baghdad.
“It was not discussed in any meeting I attended,” said Crocker. Petraeus gave that a mega-ditto.
From MM:
Sen. Levin mistakenly calls Gen. Petraeus “Admiral.”
Questions from Senate panel.
10:42am. Sen. Levin calls Petraeus’s call for pause a “clear, open-ended pause.” Do you agree with Secy Gates that it would be “brief” or not? Levin is rude and sanctimonious. “He used the word brief. You are not. That is deliberate.”
Petraeus: I am not using the word “brief” or the word “pause.”
Levin: How long? Petraeus trying to answer. Could it be three months?
At the end of the period of evaluation and consolidation, it could be right then.
HECKLERS: BRING THEM HOME! BRING THEM HOME!
Levin barely lifts a finger to remove the heckler.
10:47am Eastern. Was the Iraqi govt operation in Basra adequately planned?
Petraeus: No question it could have been better planned. Levin is heckling Petraeus. Could you give me a direct answer?
Petraeus repeats: It could have been.
So this is the Democrat strategy for today: Heckle the general about Basra, allow outside hecklers to pile on.
I don’t know if it is visible on television, but it looked liked there was a lot of teeth-gritting going on just now among the five Democrats sitting on the left side of the hearings as their erstwhile colleague (and vice presidential nominee)–Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) –lectured them on how much better the war in Iraq is going. Why wouldn’t they just be “honest,” he asked?

A total joke but after all that is what a non government is, just look at the people in power most are in fact foreign born and in fact most work for others in power in that persons home country; so that is why this nation is a joke all over the world but most so called Americans don’t know that fact of life. this so called nation state is a real Circus and it will die a Circus.

What a circus, complete with the Clowns. When I was a kid, I’d read about, and see all the movies about, the fall of the Roman empire. I always wondered how something so great, so powerful, could fall so far. How could those corrupt, degenerate Senators so openly and flamboyantly betray Rome? How could they betray their sacred oaths, the people, the greatness of Rome?
Now I fully undertand as we have the modern-day equivalent in our own version of the Imperial Roman Senate. And the corrupt degenerates are selling us out, America out, in essentially the same way.
I wonder if the Founders forgot to make violating the Constitution a crime, or if they figured that would be too dangerous since it is up to interpretation. The problem is it is all up to interpretation anyway, and that has led us to where we are now.
