Shut Up! The “Conscience of the Senate.” Is Staying On As “Kleagle” of the Senate Appropriations Committee

‘Shut up‘ ! That was what he said in response to those that questioned his ability to head such a powerful committe! He used to be so eloquent when he spoke:

  • “There are white niggers. I’ve seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I’m going to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country, and I’d just as soon quit talking about it so much.”
  • “The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia” and “in every state in the Union.”
  • The ex-Klansman vowed never to fight “with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

    • Now doesn’t this make you feel like your tax dollars are being well spent?

    Byrd seemed to grasp that what was on the official agenda was not the only topic of the hearing, showing up on time in a crisp suit and displaying a broad smile while an aide wheeled him into the room.

    When the hearing ended, his only words for his critics were, “Shut up.” He seemed to pass the test, convincing three Senate Democratic leaders that he’s able to continue as chairman.

    Thank God he said shut up, and because of that, Durbin, Schumer and Reid are convinced he is the best man for the job!
