The Economy Is So Bad That Illegals Are Not Sending Money Home

Note how the WaPo makes it appear that the migrants are legal. Is the author referring to the 3 in 10 that are legal?

In January, the cash transfers, known as remittances, sagged almost 7 percent compared with a year earlier, the steepest monthly dip in at least 13 years, according to Mexican government statistics. Economists here believe the decline in remittances is already pushing thousands into extreme poverty and could lead to a significant increase in migration as desperate Mexicans, deprived of support from abroad, flee to an ever more difficult U.S. job market.

God forbid Mexico should actually develop an economy that is dependent on the citizen’s living within their borders.

  1. Yeah, I’m sure that Arizona passing legislation requiring employers to obey the law and stop hiring illegals might have had a small thing to do with this. The downturn in the housing industry didn’t help either. When there are fewer jobs to available and the legal work force can turn you in for hiring illegals , contractors sort of avoid doing so. Who knows? One day you may even be able to go onto a construction sit in Arizona and hear ENGLISH being spoken by ALL of the workers. Many states are emulating Arizona’s employer sanctions laws which will decidedly have an impact when they start revoking business licenses of anyone who knowingly hires illegals. AZ requires employers to use E-verify to guarantee work eligibility. Now if the Social Security administration and the IRS would start sharing all of the no match information with the Dept of Homeland Security, there would be a MASS exodus for the border. An event that would help improve the economy of this country by forcing businesses to pay a fair wage (prices would accordingly rise but in many areas not significantly) and once positions were filled with LEGAL workers, we could look at expanding immigration permits to allow more people to enter legally. Until they leave and the economy corrects itself (wages and prices rise to the appropriate level), the illegals will cause the economy to be less than it could be. Once the economy does hit the appropriate price and wage level (not artificially raised like minimum wage, but rather free market raised as in “this is what I’m willing to accept to do that job, and if you won’t pay me that, I’ll work elsewhere.” raised)we’ll be able to allow more people to come in legally AND they’ll be paid a higher wage as well so it will be a win/win situation in the end.

  2. Stop FAO! That is too much common sense! Citing principles that have been proven over and over again is too much! You might cause some passing Socialist’s head to explode trying to understand what we Conservatives know to be true!

  3. Sorry Robert, but I like watching liberal gas bags explode. Of course they never fully explode, only sputter enough to vent enough pressure to avoid an actual explosion. Watching the veins start bulging and arteries start throbbing is fun though even if you can’t get them explode. Liberals make very superficial arguments and can’t handle being proven to be the shallow, small minded individuals that they claim everyone else out to be.
