Carter: If Jerusalem is turned over to the Palestinians and Israel pulls back to the 1967 borders then Hamas will accept Israel’s right to exist UPDATE: Hamas rejects Israeli recognition

In other words, Jimmy met with terrorists, Jimmy kissed terrorists proverbial arses, Jimmy still an idiot.

Former President Carter said Monday that Hamas ” the Islamic militant group that has called for the destruction of Israel ” is prepared to accept the right of the Jewish state to “live as a neighbor next door in peace.”

But Carter warned that there would not be peace if Israel and the U.S. continue to shut out Hamas and its main backer, Syria.

The Democratic former president relayed the message in a speech in Jerusalem after meeting last week with top Hamas leaders in Syria. It capped a nine-day visit to the Mideast aimed at breaking the deadlock between Israel and Hamas militants who rule the Gaza Strip.

“They (Hamas) said that they would accept a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, if approved by Palestinians and that they would accept the right of Israel to live as a neighbor next door in peace,” Carter said.

The borders he referred to were the frontiers that existed before Israel captured large swaths of Arab lands in the 1967 Mideast war ” including the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza.

In the past, Hamas officials have said they would establish a “peace in stages” if Israel were to withdraw to the borders it held before 1967. But it has been evasive about how it sees the final borders of a Palestinian state and has not abandoned its official call for Israel’s destruction.

Israel, which evacuated Gaza in 2005, has accepted the idea of a Palestinian state there and in much of the West Bank. But it has resisted Palestinian demands that it return to its 1967 frontiers.

Carter urged Israel to engage in direct negotiations with Hamas, saying failure to do so was hampering peace efforts.

“We do not believe that peace is likely and certainly that peace is not sustainable unless a way is found to bring Hamas into the discussions in some way,” he said. “The present strategy of excluding Hamas and excluding Syria is just not working.”

Gateway Pundit points that Hamas offered the same “peace” deal in 2006. WND reported in February, 2006:

Meshaal’s comments follow a WND exclusive interview two weeks ago in which a top Hamas leader, using in some cases the same language as Meshaal, said his group will soon make public a “peace initiative” in which it will offer to trade strategic land with Israel, cease attempts to capture parts of Jerusalem and sign a 10-year renewable truce with the Jewish state with the aim of later destroying Israel.

“[Hamas would] possibly give a long-term truce with Israel,” said Meshaal in an interview yesterday from Egypt. “This is a position that Hamas could take, but not now, only after Israel recognizes the rights of the Palestinians, to show and confirm its willingness to withdraw to the 1967 borders.”

A Newt One added that just for the sake of setting the record straight for this buffoon Jimmy Carter, I suggest everyone that comes across this post read this post.

At the end of the day, we are talking about a former President of the United States of America, negotiating with a terrorist organization, for the right of a nation to exist.

“The problem is not that I met with Hamas in Syria,” Carter said Monday. “The problem is that Israel and the United States refuse to meet with someone who must be involved.”

No Jimmy, that isn’t even close to what the real problem is!

UPDATE thanks to Ted: Hamas rejects Israeli recognition

Palestinian militant group Hamas will not recognise Israel, its political leader Khaled Meshaal has insited.

He was responding to comments by former US President Jimmy Carter, following their talks in Syria at the weekend.

Mr Meshaal said Hamas agreed to a Palestinian state on the land in east Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza that Israel captured in the 1967 war.

Mr Carter had said Hamas was prepared to accept the right of Israel to “live as a neighbour next door in peace”.

Speaking in Syria, where he lives in exile, Khaled Meshaal said the Palestinian state must have “Jerusalem as its capital, with genuine sovereignty, without settlements”.

He added that this did not mean recognising Israel, but he said: “We have offered a truce if Israel withdraws to the 1967 borders, a truce of 10 years as an alternative to recognition.”

    That’s rich. How about this:

Because it is a terrorist organization, Hamas does not have the right to exist.

    Jihad Jimmy is a loon.

Jimmy is wrong on so many levels, I can barely begin to write about it. You said it so very well…

“…No Jimmy, that isn’t even close to what the real problem is!…”

Exactly so. The “problem” is the terrorists want to wipe Israel off the face of the planet and that little factoid is in their charter.

    Jimmy = moron

If Jimmie Farter believes that, then I got some ocean front property in Utah, I’ll sell him at a good price.

He’s so senile his wife should take him by the hand and lead him to the nearest nursing home.

Oh, on the Jimmy Carter front:

Gas prices have now exceeded the prices during Carter’s Presidential term when adjusted for inflation and dollar.

So we are in for it folks. The gas prices we are paying now is where we were about 3 month ago when oil was $100.00 per barrel. Oil is now $118.00 per barrel and only going to rise.

For the first time in history, America is importing wheat.

The UN says there is not a world wide shortage of rice.

    There are other shortage also.

Food markets are all at an all high cost. Corn prices are up 80% and fuel is just one reason as we are beginning to burn our food supply in our vehicles. Corn prices are up 80% and fuel costs is just one reason.

The shit is hitting the fan, and it not just one party’s fault. You can thank Bush, Pelosi and the rest of government. We are electig more of the same with McCain and Obama and it’s just plain stupid.

We will hit a recession, and we will lose the war not because of a political “anti-war” reasons but economical ones. The American politician is making horrible economic decisions- Bush included. McCain is clueless. Obama will only make it worse through taxation and socialism. We won’t be able to afford the war and we will withdraw becasue of that econimic reasons alone.

We have been importing wheat/wheat gluten, while at the same time exporting the product.

Well said Ted..in the shed. There were a lot of people voicing the fact that it takes soooooooo much corn and energy to make ethanol that it was a net loss to begin with, and the rise in food prices was going to be a real big problem. But ohhhh nooo, the ecodiots had to push these ethanol subsidies to the point where it is becoming a lot less profitable to grow corn for food anymore. Now the world is getting a little clue as to just how much that old 1950’s textbook expression, “The worlds breadbasket” was actually true. This is what happens when stupid wins.

one reason may be that the producers are limiting their exports

The increase in rice prices internationally promised to put more pressure on prices in the United States, which imports more than 30 percent of the rice Americans consume, according to the United States Rice Producers Association. The price that consumers pay for rice has already increased more than 8 percent over the last year.

But the United States is fortunate in also exporting rice; poor countries ranging from Sengal in West Africa to the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific are heavily dependent on imports and now face higher bills.

Vietnam’s government announced here on Friday that it would cut rice exports by nearly a quarter this year. The government hoped that keeping more rice inside the country would hold down prices.

Ethanol from Corn is a huge boondoggle. I have heard that with Corn you get ~1.2 units of energy in Ethanol for every 1 energy unit you put in to grow, harvest, process, distill, etc. We get to pay tax money to subsidize it, and on top of that we have the high food prices.

I place the real blame for this absurdity on the Congresscrooks who sold out to ADM and other Agribusiness donors.

Once again what they do is not good for America or Americans but is just dandy for their cronies and contributors.
