For more than 20 years I have been saying Liberalism is a form of mental illness, a conclusion based on heuristics and anecdotal observations and examples. I was a voice in the wilderness back then, but others have come to the same conclusion. It is now beginning to look like consensus, and with the addition of Science it is at least as valid a theory as human-caused Global Warming, and arguably more so.
Dr. Lyle Rossiter provides the Science with his study titled “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological causes of Political Madness”.
Here is an excerpt:
“Modern liberalism’s irrationality can only be understood as the product of psychopathology. So extravagant are the patterns of thinking, emoting, behaving and relating that characterize the liberal mind that its relentless protests and demands become understandable only as disorders of the psyche.” The Liberal Mind reveals the madness of the modern liberal for what it is: a massive transference neurosis acted out in the world’s political arenas, with devastating effects on the institutions of liberty.
This makes complete sense and explains the Liberal thinking and behavior that defies any other explanation.

What a great find Robert and thanks for posting this. I have laughed everytime you’ve said this. I have had to deal with a very liberal father in law who has shown himself to be blind to ‘the other point of view’ and I have come to the conclusion that not only is liberalism a form of mental illness but liberals in general are as closed minded as an individual can be.
Welcome to the growing consensus! And unlike the “consensus” that blames human activity for Global Warming, we aren’t motivated by money to reach our conclusion. It is simply the only way to explain the phenomenon of mass psychosis we have all observed.

This topic has got to be the dumbest thing I have seen this year. Rossiter has got to be some right wing political hack hired by Karl Rove to attack progressives. The rightwing is running scared because either Baraq Obama or Hillary Clinton will be the next President.
Our society can thank Liberals and Liberalism for virtually all social progress this country has made in the last 100 years. It was Liberals that ended child labor and virtual economic slavery! It was Liberalism that ended the Republican Depression of the 1930s! It was Liberals that won the Civil Rights struggles of the 1960s and broke the white male Republican Jim Crow laws! It was the progressive Democratic leadership in Congress that brought down the Berlin wall and ended the Cold War after 50 years of stonewallling by the right wing had created it! If not for Bush and Halliburton, we wouldn’t be bogged down in the endless quagmire of the illegal war they started!
Now it will be Liberals, Liberalism, and Democratic President Baraq Obama who will enact change, real change, change we can believe in!!!
It is inevitable and the sooner you accept it the quicker we can move on, make progress.
