Seven years later, where are we?
As angry truckers encircled the Capitol in a horn-blaring caravan and consumers across the country agonized over $60 fill-ups, the issue of high fuel prices flared on the campaign trail on Monday, sharply dividing the two Democratic candidates.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton lined up with Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, in endorsing a plan to suspend the federal excise tax on gasoline, 18.4 cents a gallon, for the summer travel season. But Senator Barack Obama, Mrs. Clinton’s Democratic rival, spoke out firmly against the proposal, saying it would save consumers little and do nothing to curtail oil consumption and imports.
While Mr. Obama’s view is shared by environmentalists and many independent energy analysts, his position allowed Mrs. Clinton to draw a contrast with her opponent in appealing to the hard-hit middle-class families and older Americans who have proven to be the bedrock of her support. She has accused Mr. Obama of being out of touch with ordinary Americans who are struggling to meet their mortgages and gas up their cars and trucks.
Mrs. Clinton said at a rally on Monday morning in Graham, N.C., that she would introduce legislation to impose a windfall-profits tax on oil companies and use the revenue to suspend the gasoline tax temporarily.

As gasoline approaches $4 I have been waiting for the backlash to start against the bungholes who have stopped us from developing domestic energy resources. Why is it taking so long? Are the sheeple truly that mind-numbed? Is the majority no longer capable of originating a thought in their own minds, or are they now capable of only parroting what they see on the six o’clock MSM news?
What will it take? $5/gallon?
Democrites = $4/5/6 gasoline.
Robert, was that your line I used in the title? I couldn’t find the thread I read it in?
Its about time those worthless political hacks oked drilling in the ANWR and told the greens to go take a hike and feed themselves to the polar bears killer wahles and skuas=:)
No, that wasn’t mine. But really, I wonder where is the pain threshhold at which Americans en masse rise up and say enough is enough?
$5? $6? $7? Donde esta?
BTW love the graphics! They say in humor there is a core of painful truth. There sure is!
I am beyond it! I won’t waste gas anymore..I used to, I admit that, but not anymore. I only go where I need to. Hence, I don’t need to go to Starbucks or the mall. I get groceries just once a week…Enough is enough!
Those cartoons are funny, I have to admit. Maybe that’s because I refuse to buy another car until the price of gas comes back down again, but I even the price to take the bus has gone up! Oh well. I stay within walking distance. No biggie for me. I know, I know. It is for some people! I know this.
So what are you saying? Are you suggesting we TAKE the oil from Iraq? Wouldn’t that be Blood for Oil? I don’t understand these liberals. Really…lol
Iraq can repay its debt to us in oil. Here’s what I would do as part of that program: I would give $2M to the family of every U.S. soldier who was killed and $1M for every severely injured soldier. $500k or $250k for other levels of injury or disability. That would cost probably $50B. Chump change in the world of oil…
I’m a courier. This BS is making my life tough. Even with my four cylinder truck, my gas bills have gone from around $500 a month to almost $800.
President Bush FINALLY found enough of a pair to stand up and let the world know that the DEMS are responsible for the high gas prices. Of Course Harry Reid said the President was wrong and that the Dems’ energy conservation plans would make it all better. He’s an idiot. Hillary got out and claimed that she was going to demand that OPEC increase production if she becomes President. My thought on that was, “Or WHAT?” They don’t have to do a damn thing you say whether you’re the President or not. I still remember the OPEC oil embargo of the early 70s. She must have had her brain too adled by Bill’s non inhaled pot smoke to remember it. Until and Unless we produce our own oil and refine it, we can’t demand anything from OPEC. It’d more like the paddle scene from “Animal House” where Kevin Bacon is being paddled and responds with “Please Sir May I have another?” Stupid damn Dem.
next Time you get one of those stupid letters from GREENPEACE or the SEIRRA CLUB uring you to oppose drill in the ANWR and saying how its a ecologictly fragile area tell them greens to GO TAKE A HIKE that you have more important things to spend that $500 on then their bank accounts lawyer fees and ship fuel TELL THE GREENS TO GO TAKE A JUMP IN A LAKE~:>
