U.S. Says 400-Billion Barrel Bakken Oil Field a ‘Myth’

(CNSNews.com) – Reports circulating on the Internet tell of an oil field spanning parts of western North Dakota and eastern Montana where 400 billion barrels of oil supposedly are just waiting to be tapped. However, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) tells Cybercast News Service that those huge estimates are “a myth.”

  2. You think this crazy world is on Myth? Looks a lot like that to me. I do believe if I hear one more cockamamie story of any kind. I’m not going to believe anything any more. Gee does look like the US Geological Survey and whoever else may have this info – would at least get it right? How about let’s quit story telling, let’s get to truth telling and business at hand for a change. How confusing and unproductive. Seems like we are getting nowhere fast these days with the Congress, Gov. & Obama making empty promises, they must be on myth too,
These people live in Crazyville. Who can you believe?
Has anything gotten accomplished of any value this lovely election year except creating more problems?:-?

  3. Meth is the way to spell the drug, however the USA is living a Myth. Not real, probably Meth too, gone Crazy and Lazy! I believe the oil problems could have long since been taken care decades ago. Our government overall has procrastinated the whole issue among other things! We have been spending too much money abroad and not in our own country. Living the Myth that America can not have unsolvable problems, well we need to get busy, quit talking and do something quick. Take care of our own problems and then maybe help someone else. First things first! *-:)**==

  4. The USGS has confiormed 4.3B barrels. Howeer, other estimates range higher and the USGS will be issuing ongoing reports modifying that number.

In the meanwhile, 4.3 billion barrels? DRILL AWAY!

And even the dry holes will be useful. We can throw envirofrauders down them.

  5. Can I go on record as being one Liberal who wants to pass out the drill bits?

  6. Duly Noted! =d>**==

  7. Of course the 400 billion barrels is a right-wing myth! There is relatively little oil in all these environmentally-sensitive areas, so we cannot drill our way out of this problem. The way out is simply to use less oil! Everybody knows that!

Here’s what needs to be done, and the Congress should be working on it now:

    1. Impeach Bush! He and Cheney have set these high prices.
    2. Raise CAFE standards to 60 mpg. Produce a hybrid Smart Car.
    3. Start using alternative, green energy like solar and wind power. Equip these Smart cars with solar panels and windmills.
    4. Start phasing out oil now! We DON’T need it; it is just the oil companies suppressing the 200-mpg carburetor and everything that can help us use less!
    5. Tax the oil companies 100% of their excess profits! They’ll stop ripping us off when they see they won’t profit by it anyway!
    6. Start forcing the public to stop using cars and trucks. They don’t need them! double registration fees every year! Start charging an annual carbon tax unless motorists start buying carbon offsets!

All of the above is obvious and we know it will work to punish Big Oil because we won’t need their poison any more. I don’t expect the right-wingers to understand it all; just accept it and get with the program and support the Congress!

  8. 7 – A few issues with your theories
    1. Yes, they should be impeached, but not for high prices, for being idiots. The markets sets the high prices. Its called Capitalism.
    2. Yes, but the high prices will do that on its own. Also known as market driven.
    3. I don’t think putting a windmill on a moving device is practical, but I like your enthusiam. Again, let the car companies figure this out after we’ve given them the need.
    4. Send me a picture of the magic wand you are going to use to make this happen.
    5. Taxing makes companies leave and we lose that revenue. They are more so the resellers in the game. Its like taxing the grocery chain because the price of milk is too high.
    6. I’m sure once practical, cheaper alternatives exist, people will move. They vote with their pocketbooks, usually. As for the carbon offsets, I’ve yet to see an organization that can sell one that passes Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Can you?

I think they should put an excise tax on all imported oil, where ever it comes from and then let the markets sort it out.

  9. NY-David, don’t be so gullible.

The “Democratic Activist” poster isn’t really a Democrat OR an activist.

Sometimes, when the righties are really bored here at RV, they like to use political alter egos. They think it’s clever and funny, but it’s actually really childish and easy to spot.

  10. Actually SFL, Democratic Activist isn’t an alter ego, it is a actual new member. DA came to the boards to try and state his/her position, but failed to bring a solid point based on fact with them.

  12. #10: No way, Pam…

DA is a fraud. A fake.

Remember when Robert used to do the same thing, with the alter egos?

    Lame.

I guess it takes a Lefty like me to see through this one…

  13. Um, Robert told you he was screwing around didn’t he? As I said, DA is a lefty just like you and no, he wasn’t joking. What he said was stupid, I’ll grant you that…

  14. SFL if you think that poster is stupid perhaps you aren’t as Liberal as you thought?

  15. “As I said, DA is a lefty just like you and no, he wasn’t joking.”

    ————-

    How do you know that?

Seriously, how would you know more than I would if that person is being “real” or not?

I smell a rat. I would bet money on it.

  16. Because, unlike you, a member, I have access to IP’s and I can see where the IP’s originate from etc….

Don’t bet your money on this one…

  17. And the IP helps you determine someones political ideology, how?

I’m not doubting the existance of the person, I am doubting their sincerity.

  18. SFL- That can be true of any of us..sometimes, we ignore those that don’t make sense or aren’t worth the effort..I was just trying to point out to you that in this case, DA is not one of our regulars…NY-David’s response was a great response to the nonsense.

  19. While it would be possible to blog as a seperate persona from a different location (different IP address) and different email address, I’m not sure I see the point. I barely have time during the day to espouse my liberal self on Pam’s area of the internet, let alone advocating from both sides.
