Really? According to these figures from the end of May, Obama had raised a total of $287,397,945 vs John McCain’s $119,594,596. Kristi Jourdan, of The Grand Rapids Press, may want to actually research such sources prior to publishing nonsense such as this:
Numbers released this week show Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama with $340 million versus McCain’s $132 million. In June, Obama raised $52 million.
Does each candidate have that money on hand or is that what they raised total? Now the article gets fun! Why? Well, let’s look at this:
The Michigan Democratic Party hosted a community picnic with dogs and lemonade at Millennium Park.
And Republican presidential nominee John McCain began his visit to West Michigan with a stop at the Pronto Pups hot dog stand in Grand Haven, where he enjoyed a corn dog along the Grand Haven channel.
Afterward, McCain attended a private fundraising stop at former Ambassador Peter Secchia’s home in Ferrysburg. Guests supped on bacon-encrusted apricots and lamb chops while enjoying a full bar and a great sunset over Lake Michigan, said one attendee. An e-mail invitation to the event suggested a $2,300 contribution per person.
Playing off that, picnic organizers at Millennium Park advertised a $2.30 contribution for their hot dogs, watermelon, chips and other refreshments, but decided against charging anyone once the event was under way.
Democratic State Chairman Mark Brewer, who attended the picnic, said McCain is alienating himself from average local voters with the private fundraiser.
“Why is he only coming and talking to people who can pay him $2,300?” Brewer said. “Why doesn’t he hold a town hall meeting and get some regular folks from Grand Rapids? Is (Obama) raising money? Absolutely, but he doesn’t just come in and raise money. He comes in and talks to voters.”
Ambassador Peter Secchia made sure that Millennium Park became a reality by seeking the majority of the funding from the private sector, ie., his pals. Did the park need more trails? Yes it did, and look who came through for them! Are you with me so far? The Democrats sat in the park that Secchia built and yet some of the money that was raised at Secchia’s home for John McCain should go to a food bank?
Now let’s get down to the fundraiser, shall we? For $2300, John McCain was at the dinner and for $2.30, you didn’t get Obama.
A town hall meeting in Grand Rapids? When did this happen? So far, he came to Grand Rapids, with Silky, spoke to 12,000 people at the Van Andel Arena(the family gives boat loads of cash to Republican candidates, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars to hospitals , research centers, Millennium Park, etc.,), and left. Take at look at this WaPo piece on McCain vs Obama visits.
From January 2007, through June, 2008, McCain has visited Michigan 37 times with 6 stops in Grand Rapids vs Obama’s 11 visits to Michigan and twice to Grand Rapids (the other visit was a fund raiser at a private home).
Wouldn’t it be nice if the author had done some research prior to printing such nonsense?

Excellent post. Sorry it took so long for me to see it. My haloscan was on the fritz, and my post that you trackbacked to was down near my archives.
It sure is getting cursiouser and cursiouser the way the media is reacting to this democrat. Bias? Oh Noooooo. Not at all! McCain goes to Iraq, no reporters. Rat goes to Iraq for the first time since the surge and declares the surge didn’t work, over 200 reporters. Can you see where this is going? Oh, that’s right. I forgot for a minute I was ’speaking’ to people with BRAINS.
Oh dear Lord. CURIOUSER. Good grief. :”>
The Rat is in reference to the hit job the press tried to pull on Bush with one of his commercials where it displayed dem oc rat, but they said it was a subliminal message. Um…I did not need a stinking subliminal messages, nor did the people that voted for him! They just wanted to start something out of nothing. That’s why I won’t forget it!
