HOPE: Senate Republicans have threatened to block nearly all other bills pending before the August recess if Democrats refuse to vote with them on expanding offshore drilling

I had to pinch myself on this one:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said bills that do not pertain to energy can wait until after the August recess, with gas prices now surpassing $4 per gallon. McConnell and top Republicans indicated Wednesday they would oppose any procedural votes to take up other legislation, which require 60 votes to succeed. :

Following swift Senate action on the narrow energy bill, Reid wanted the Senate to approve a massive defense authorization bill, an overhaul of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, legislation to protect reporters’ sources, an extension of expiring energy tax incentives, and a major package of 33 bills held up by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.).

But Republicans are planning to keep the Senate on the energy issue until their demands are resolved. The massive housing-rescue package might be the only other measure that gets valuable floor time before the August recess.

After years of obstructing domestic production  with the promise that alternative energy is just around the corner, the Democrats are about to learn the meaning of the word change.

I ‘HOPE’ this works this time and everyone stays focused – that will be a ‘CHANGE.’ I am sure sick of hearing the other side saying how wonderful things will be, when ‘you know who’ maybe ? prez (not likely) – the one everyone can believe in?? Like this has been our only hope in over 2000 years – sorry I meant 200 years – ‘the coming of Obama,’ the one the world has been waiting for – IMO he’s been here, so-ooo – I know of no one that has been waiting for this KOOK Obama. You can see the disdain in McCain’s face as he made a comment about Obama’s speech in Berlin – surly everyone can see through this trumped up BO ‘worldly’ tour. All Hype and No Substance! Just Words! Obama’s HUA is showing! Obama has shot himself way out in (left field) on this little tour. Perish the thought: just think how he’ll be if ever elected. There’s not a humble bone in his body. Obama wants people to fall down and worship him.^:)^ One thing for sure if the price of oil goes down, Obama won’t look so good. The Republicans will have made that come about, NOT the Demorats. *-:)

After years as virtual Eunuchs, the Republicans are finally starting to find their cajones. They need to make sure this whole energy thing is wrapped firmly around the neck of the Democrites, right where it belongs.

The U.S.’s continental shelf reserves account for a little more than 200 days of world consumption. Production would not start until 2017.

Thus, “access to the Pacific, Atlantic, and eastern Gulf regions would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030.”

It’s not me saying this: it’s the Bush Government.

Stretch Pelosi is really trying to divert the attention of gas and BLAME BUSH.The reserves are for EMERGENCIES.There is no emergencyand we sure wouldn’t see a drop at the pump. She knows it’s a NO on realeasing te reserves , so all she can hope for is that the uninformed see it as Bush’s fault.
Iam thrilled to hear that the REPUBLICANS are going to show how Pelosi and MOVEON.ORGY have all the dems scared witless about holding onto their offices.I hope and pray that true conservatism is on a comeback. WWRD?

We aren’t looking to supply the world, just our needs.

Even assuming it will take 12 years to develop the Continental shelf resources, the only thing that suggests is: We should have done it at least twelve years ago!

    Fact Checker,

We’ll have more oil for the rest of us when watermelons and socialists like are denied ALL oil products as long as you stay in the US. Maybe move to Zimbabwe.

    Pam,
I appreciate that, but oil is a global commodity. The companies that drill and produce it will be selling it on the world market, not the U.S. market.

Time to look for another solution.

Fact checker you are assuming that it will be the ONLY production on the planet. That hardly seems reasonable does it? Or for that matter even likely? There are two options available. Drill or starve. Take your pick. Tractors don’t run on water, and there is NO VIABLE technology that can make them do so. Same goes for trucks or trains. Without those three vehicle types, all of the city bound liberals starve to death. That includes all of the welfare slugs who are keeping the Democrats in power.

Corn based ethanol is a boondoggle that takes more energy to produce than it produces.

Biodiesel is sort of viable. There just doesn’t happen to be enough diesel powered personal vehicles in the US to make widespread production a probability. A pity on that point really.

Wind power isn’t sufficiently efficient at this point to be much more than supplemental.

Solar is the same as wind. Simply not efficient enough at this point to be economically viable.

That leaves ONE economically viable option. And the liberal econazis have fought it tooth and nail. That option is NUCLEAR.

FAO you have typed the “N” word! Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, none of the so-called leaders will ever utter the N word! They babble endlessly about alternate energy sources, about moving beyond oil, but “N” is off the table…

Oh I have one other comment about oil. Exactly what do the liberals think we’re going to be able to use to make the little sterile disposable syringes that they all want to had out to their drug addled constituents to get their votes?

Oh but don’t you want to bet – some of those liberals will say Honky! White Trash, with a live mike is on. Oh excuse me, JJ didn’t know it was on? Yea right! He can’t blame it on Imus. I didn’t see Imus near that mike, but his Buddie beside him looked a little wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. Haven’t you noticed how quick things like that are swept under those foreign Persian Rugs of Obamas. He has enough under there to choke a Donkey. Wonder how much hush money has been paid to Trinity Church, Uncle Wright, Creepy Preacher (Father Flakie) Louis F. Word Con, Ayers, Michelle, now Jesse Jackson and Lord only knows who else. They all seem to have shut up for now that they all played their RACE CARD. JOKERS!

#8 Pam: DITTO – forget supplying the World with Oil or anything else, Obama wants to do that at Americas expense. In his sick narcissist mind, Obama is going to be WORLD LEADER. BHO IS THE MOST EGO STRUCK PERSON IN ALL OF HISTORY. When you have deep seated issues like Obama you cannot expect anything any better!

#13 FAO, Liberals can’t think that far ahead. All they think about is their immediate self-gratification, physical, emotional, and political. Even if Liberals could understand all of the real world implications of what they want to do, they wouldn’t be able to think far enough ahead to see them.
