A Democratic Night In Review: A Drunk, A Bitter Half, Race Baiting, Abortion And Higher Taxes

This is what you need to know:

  • Sen. Edward M. Kennedy summoned fellow Democrats to rally behind Barack Obama’s pioneering quest for the White House Monday night in an emotional opening to a party convention struggling for unity essential in the fall campaign.

laurel-hardy-gold-diggers.jpg

  • Obama’s convention planners used a prime time address by his wife, Michelle, to begin the work of casting him as a leader with classic American values.”Among them, she said in prepared remarks; “that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do, that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”

The DNC is now airing its kinder, gentler Michelle Obama video.

It’s titled “South Side Girl.”

Reminding the American public about her Chicago roots and ties.

Did someone maybe think this (Ayers..Wright..Rezko:UChicago hospital dumping plan:etc:etc:etc:) might not be a good idea?

  • “There are people who are not going to vote for him because he’s black,” said James Hoffa, president of the Teamsters. “And we’ve got to hope that we can educate people to put aside their racism and to put their own interests No. 1.”

  • delegates ratified a party platform tailored to Obama’s specifications. It backs “complete redeployment within 16 months from Iraq,” as well as health care for all, a new economic stimulus package and higher taxes on families earning over $250,000 a year.

  • “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right,”

lilpba5.gif

  • “To stay wallowing in all of this is not productive,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

  • “Obama’s major challenge at this convention is to focus on the middle class, to show empathy because he had to climb his way up,” to demonstrate he has plans to remedy their concerns and the ability to get things done in Washington, Schumer said. But first came the tribute to Kennedy

Riot police have forced a couple of hundred protesters out of Civic Center and then blocked them before they could reach the 16th Street Mall.

Police had the protesters surrounded between Court Street and Cleveland along 15th Street and moved up reinforcements, including an Aurora armored vehicle. They have made at least one arrest. :

Protesters and police had lined up across from one another in front of City and County Building about 7 p.m., the police wearing their full riot gear and holding batons, chanting “move back, move back.”

At least one protester was sprayed with pepper spray before the mass of marchers moved back across the park and were cut off by police behind the Sheraton.

I just watched Michelle Obama’s speech. Then the carefully-scripted appearance of the Messiah himself on a big screen feed from Kansas City, where he was watching the proceedings with a white family.

The entire thing was so carefully planned, so carefully selected, so plastic and phony as to be sickening. The camera kept showing the blissful sheep in the audience. They looked as though they were in a trance. Some were crying, tears streaking across their faces.

I was waiting for them to roll in the Kool Aid carts so all the faithful could partake.

Now for those who would say I am too cynical, it was a wonderful speech, blah blah I would say that I do not judge people on the carefully-selected, polished, scripted and choreographed presentations of someone they create when they are trying to manipulate us into believing something. I judge people’s character by their actions. You add up the known facts in that category, and NO SALE. The reality compared to this show puts the lie to it.

Michelle was not real, but corny as H_________. Sickening and anyone could have made that speech, nothing earth shaking, nothing new under the sun. The whole disgusting act wasn’t worth the pay grade. MO’S bad act took way too much money and effort for such rot that anyone in their right mind could even come close to believe. If people don’t see the truth through such as this, there is no Hope.
I thought for a minute that the Trinity Church Choir was going to march in and Uncle Wright was going to sing . . . g__d___ America. :o~:>8-x

Hmmm…NO Biden bounce, loss of ground after the European Messiah tour. Lawsuit just filed to force Obama to prove he is a U.S. citizen and eligible to be POTUS…

The greatest source of hope for the vast majority of people in this country is religion. Something that the Democrat party has been trying to eliminate for years.

The best after school youth service program in this country is the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that the Democrats have been trying to destroy for years. As successful as the Boy Scouts have been in teaching young boys good solid moral values, the Democrats have tried to destroy them because they refuse to risk the health and safety of their juvenile members by allowing homosexuals to be leaders. We all know how well that worked out for the Catholic church, but the Dems are so much more interested in keeping the homosexuals happy that they don’t care. Of course they’ll claim allowing homosexuals to take large groups of young boys camping is best “For the children.”

    Change
    Change
    Change

Lets see know, in 1917 the people in Russia wanted change from the Czar. Boy did they get it Lenin/Stalin over 20 million murdered.

In 1932 the people of Germany wanted change, boy did they get it. Over 6 million murdered.

In 1947 China wanted change, boy did the get it over 40 million murdered.

Of course all three cases it was heros of the left that were in charge after change.

    Do we really want change????????????????????:)=)):-ss

    Dear Libby Basher,
Every morning, I go to work past a big hole in the ground that used to be the WTC. Seven years later, no Bin Laden, but boy, Iraq has some new schools and a surplus economy.
Further, if you are comparing my country (USA) to three major dispotic regimes, I suspect you may want to review your cherry picked history lessons for what you’d missed.

Theres still a hole in the ground because of stupidity. Period.
    Facts & Description:

    - Part of the New World Trade Center, which is expected to be completed in 2012 – 2013. Link to Project Diagram:
    http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?21195322
    - This is the Freedom Tower’s second official design. The first, designed by David Childs in collaboration with Daniel Libeskind, was disregarded due to concerns raised by the New York Police department that the building would be vulnerable to a car bomb blast.
    - The building now officialy 108 Floors tall, instead of 82. The base will occupy floors 1 – 19, Floors 20 – 63 will be offices, floor 64 will be a skylobby, floors 65 – 88 will also be offices. Floors 89 – 99 will be Mechanical floors, floors 100 – 102 will be used for Observation and other public uses. Floors 103 – 108 will then be more Mechanical Floors.
-The new design attempts to address the NYPD’s concerns with its 186.5-foot-high reinforced concrete blast resistant base, which will contain the Freedom Tower’s 80-foot tall lobby and three of its mechanical floors.
    - The base of the tower, which was originally to be clad in polished steel and titanium like 7 WTC, will now be covered in vertical bands of glass prisms. The base will have no windows except for several tall narrow ones which will be placed a minimum of 25 feet above the ground.
    - The cornerstone of Freedom Tower was laid in July 2004, before the redesign was deemed necessary. The stone was then removed in mid 2006 as foundation work for the tower began.
    - After lengthy and combative negotiations that resulted in a reconfigured lease agreement between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (the owner of the World Trade Center) and Larry Silverstein (the leaseholder of the complex), construction of the Freedom Tower began on April 27, 2006. Not long after the start of construction, a new battle with the insurers of the World Trade Center resulted from the reconfiguration of the lease. The court battle now threatens to delay or end construction.

I can agree with the above as there was certainly a lot of political and emotionaly wrangling not only about its design, but space for a fitting memorial. “Combative negotiations” is an understatment. I will take issue with the statement that the Freedom Tower was expected to be done in 2006. You can’t build a sidewalk in NYC in that time frame.

This still doesn’t address why Afghanistan was “outsourced” to NATO and why Bin Laden wasn’t hung by his toenails.

Outsourced? You mean that when we work with our allies under a NATO agreement, that is outsourcing? Isn’t that what the left was screaming about when it was just us, the USA, going it alone in Iraq (and 30 allies that the left spit on)???

The US turned the mission over to NATO, as it should have. As we have seen increased violence, the US is once again stepping up to the plate and supplying the lions share of support for the mission.

You keep bringing up Bin Laden as if the man sits in his cave and calls each play..newsflash..he doesn’t, and we have captured and/or killed many in his inner circle. We have made progress, but let’s not pretend that we don’t have a problem getting to OBL because of Pakistan. Yes OBL should be dipped in pork juice from head to toe, buried in the sand up to his neck and kissed all over the face by homosexuals, as an encore, have 72 virgins strip from their burkas and do a dance for him as the curse and booze it up, and then, hang him by the toenails..

I don’t see the Freedom Towers being opened until 2015 at the earliest….That is my bet.

I think we agree on more then we let on.
My understanding is that Bust turned operations over to NATO to focus more of his “war on terror” in Iraq. Newsflash for you… Sadam didn’t take down the WTC, Pentagon and a corn field in PA.
OBL is still calling the shots and the idea that he has been neutralized is a hand overplayed. He was assumed non-consequential in the early 90’s until the Rangers in Africa found out otherwise.
As for your comments about what to do with OBL, they sound like the makings of a late night film noir.
My bet is for 2020 as a move in date

I agree that we agree on more than we let on. Make no mistake, OBL is the top dog, but he isn’t running the operation single handidly, that’s all I was trying to relay..

NATO has taken over command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, marking the first time in the Atlantic alliance’s 54-year history that it has headed a security operation outside of Europe.

The change in command August 11 comes amid calls from international aid agencies, as well as the Afghan government, for ISAF’s geographic mandate to be expanded to include areas outside of Kabul province.

Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah told participants at a handover ceremony that bringing security to areas outside of Kabul Province is critical to conducting free and fair elections next year – a key long-term goal of the 2001 Bonn Agreement and UN Security Council resolutions that created Afghanistan’s Transitional Administration and the ISAF mission.
