UPDATED WITH THE ‘OH NO HE DIDN’T’ REACTION FROM OBAMA CAMPAIGN…CONFIRMED! And The Mate Is: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin

By: Pam On: Aug/29/08 -

Via drudge comes word that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is John McCain’s choice!

Two GOP strategists close to the McCain campaign said all indications pointed to Palin, a self-styled “hockey mom” and political reformer. The strategists spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized by the McCain camp to discuss the matter. There was no confirmation from McCain or his advisers….

….Palin is a first-term governor credited with reforms of her out-of-the-way state. Newly minted Democratic nominee Barack Obama is making an aggressive play for the traditional GOP stronghold and its three electoral votes, and polls show the race close.

This was my choice when looking at female candidates.  I hope this rumor proves to be true!

CNN’s Roberts: Palin Too Young and Inexperienced

During the 9 a.m. EDT hour of “CNN Newsroom,” “American Morning” co-anchor John Roberts gave an analysis of Governor Sarah Palin during discussion of Senator John McCain’s vice presidential choice. Roberts focused on Palin’s lack of experience, saying that a prerequisite for the vice presidency should be the ability to step right into the office, especially because of McCain’s age. Roberts stated:

She’s only been in office for a couple of years now, which really raises the experience issue here.

[...]

Now, she is a manager. She is the governor of a state. She does have limited experience, though. She’s also been the mayor for a city in Alaska. And for a time she was the ethics chairman of the Alaska oil and gas conservation commission. But that does not add up to broad experience, particularly the type of broad experience you think should launch you to the national level.

Of course, Senator Barack Obama, who is running for president of the United States, has no executive experience and has only been in the U.S. Senate since 2005. But apparently, Roberts finds Palin to bee too inexperienced and young to be vice president.

See, this is how it goes…

McCain is running for President and he has a lifetime of experience for the job. His Vice President pick, Sarah Palin, is a bit less experienced, but has executive experience to bring to the job (more executive experience than Obama and Biden)

Obama is running for President and he has no experience for the job (Senators don’t have executive experience, btw)_. His Vice President pick, Joe Biden, has a lifetime of experience to bring to the job.

Methinks the Democratic ticket has it a bit backwards.

The Obama campaign has it wrong in their reaction to Palin. They said she has no experience - - yet she has more executive experience than Obama and she’s running for the second slot! She’s gone up against big oil and she’s a tough lady.

    McCain/Palin ‘08!

Another perspective: Obama points at McCain having been in the Senate for 26 years as being part of the problem. Biden has been in the Senate for 30 years and is nothing more than a hack. Biden is certainly part of the problem.

And this is change? Change we can believe in?

I’d have to question the point of that.. Biden has been in the Senate for 36 years - longer than McCain (22). For Obama to criticize McCain for being so long in the Senate, then he’d have to feel the same way about his running mate, else he’d be blatantly hypocritical.

NEWS FLASH: for his Secretary of State, John McCain has named a really cute assembly line worker from Miles City, Montana. And for his next nominee to the Supreme Court, he is trying to decide between a personal trainer from Sandpoint, Idaho and court stenographer from Guam.

Seriously, 26 years in congress and he things she was a better pick than Olympia Snow and every other female Republican? Seriously?

“In some ways, the choice of Ms. Palin was reminiscent of George H. W. Bush’s selection of Dan Quayle, a young United States senator, as his running mate in 1988.”

“Several of Mr. McCain’s outside advisers reacted with bewilderment to the selection of Ms. Palin, and one said that it would undercut one of Mr. McCain’s central criticisms of Senator Obama ” that he is too inexperienced to be commander in chief.”

You guys raise two great points. Now Senator Obama can’t legitimately criticize the senate’s recent history; and Senator McCain can’t legitimately criticize Senator Obama’s lack of experience. Those two issues are more or less off the table.

One issue though is that the former Senator Clinton supporters are NOT going to jump on the Senator McCain boat just because he selected a female running mate. To suggest so would represent a misunderstanding of the typical female Senator Clinton supporter.

Sarah Palin was born in Sandpoint Idaho in 1964. My wife and I were there in 2006 and can tell you that this is an area of the country that still remains somewhat pure. We knew a little about her before the V.P slot and are pleased to see she now has it. This women exudes genuine traditionalism. We hope that her good looks are not used against her by some overwieght, tattooed, gray haired, left wing libby with her keychain hanging off her jeans.
