Carly Fiorina Introduced the Citizens for McCain Coalition

Ed was front and center and has the details with audio.  He will be adding updates, so keep checking back with him, but in the meantime, kick this around:

Earlier today, I attended a press conference held by Carly Fiorina to introduce the Citizens for McCain Coalition, a group of Democrats and independents who plan to vote for John McCain in November. Six prominent Democrats joined Fiorina for the conference, including a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton, two elected Democrats, and a former Clinton-era ambassador to OPEC. One by one, they explained how the campaign of Barack Obama disillusioned them and drove them to support McCain.

  • Ambassador Mark Erwin
  • John Coale, former fundraiser for both Clintons
  • Silver Salazar, Hispanic community leader in Colorado
  • Brian Golden, former state representative from Boston and an Iraq War veteran
  • Jennifer Lee, a Hillary Clinton campaign worker from California
  • Cynthia Ruccia, women’s rights activist and former Congressional candidate from Ohio.

This was an interesting concept, and it certainly could help the McCain campaign with centrists and independents, but the reasons these people have crossed the aisle won’t necessarily thrilll the base.  Most of them talked about the untested nature of Barack Obama, and how unhappy Coale, Lee, and Ruccia were specifically about the sexism of the Obama campaign and the Democrats in general.

I am not upset with their reasons.  Not because they chose to come over to the Republican side, but because i am sick and tired of both sides deciding who is a real conservative or a real liberal,  and who isn’t.   I am a conservative not because of religion.  I am not against abortion because of my Catholicism,  I am against it because i think it is murder.  I agree with the death penalty, in spite of my Church’s stance on the subject.  While we are on the stance of my Church, I live in a republic, not in a socialistic state and I believe in the rule of law, therefore, I won’t be aiding and abetting illegal immigrants.  I believe in benefits for gays, as in they can have civil unions and the same legal benefits that my husband and I are afforded under the law, but I don’t support marriage for gays.  Why wouldn’t I support marriage for gays?  Because it is by definition, a religious rite.  Are gays fighting for a religious rite?  Nope!  Don’t tell me that a Catholic isn’t a Christian.  Study the history of Christianity.  As a Christian, don’t sit in judgement of me because I may not believe what you do.  I answer to one God and not you.  Jesus is the Son of God, not a king, in my religion.  I support vouchers.  Religious schools, based on Christian principals, are time tested and have proven to produce positive results.  From testing to graduation rates, they are a proven winner.  Instead of assuming to know what’s best for the poor, why not ask them which school system they would like to send their children to.  Don’t be surprised when there is an exodus from the public to the private schools.  I don’t feel it is the governments job raise your family.  It doesn’t take a villiage to raise a child, but it took the village idiot to decide it did.  There should be hand ups, but not hand outs in the Welfare system.  4 years on from day one and off you go so plan your family accordingly.  If you can’t figure out who the father is, no benefits.  Children need both parents, and we have set the welfare system up to reward those that cut the father out.  Is it sometimes best to cut a parent out?  You bet, but as a last resort.  I am not threatened by an opposing political perspective, but I am threatened by a political ideologue that wants to silence opposing viewpoints.
