She’s just a small town mayor, just a hockey mom, just a beauty pageant queen…The Case Against the Case Against Palin

By: Pam On: Sep/2/08 - 9 Comments

Sarah Palin is a living reminder that the ultimate source of political power in this country is not the Kennedy School or the Davos Summit or an Ariana Huffington salon; even now, power emanates from the electorate itself. More precisely, power in 2008 emanates from the working class electorates of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

She’s just a small town mayor, just a hockey mom, just a beauty pageant queen. Palin has never shunned these belittling monikers, in part, I imagine, because the camouflage has served her so well. Soothed by the litany, her opponents tend to sleep too late, sneer too much, and forget who it is that hires them.

Watching Palin operate over the past few years has been like witnessing a dramatic reading of All the King’s Men:

What the Republicans missed about Sarah Palin then–and what the Democrats seem poised to miss now–is that she is a true political savant; a candidate with a knack for identifying the key gripes of the populace and packaging herself as the solution. That keen political nose has enabled her to routinely outperform her resume. Nearly two years into her administration, she still racks up approval ratings of 80 per cent or better:

[I]n probing this candidate, it would behoove the Democrats and the pundits to shed the notion that they are dealing with some dimwitted bumpkin (Dan Quayle seems to come up a lot lately) who’s going to start crying when they ask her to name the president of Azerbaijan; or that Palin is the townie who was brought into the Skull & Bones initiation night for the amusement of all; or that somehow the prom queen ballots got mixed up with the Alaska gubernatorial poll. Trivialize her at your own peril.

I have watched this story unfold and this is what I have come to realize:

The Democrats are the big tent party, and welcome folks from all walks of life to come to their party.  The MSM is an extension of the Democratic Party.  The only condition for admission to the party  is that you must not try to get on the planning commission if you aren’t from the right neighborhood or the right school.  If you are from the wrong side of the tracks,  they will tell you what is best for you.

Allahpundit:

The Democrats, ironically, seem to have bought into the “ordinary gal” image even more totally than the right has; they’re actually starting pools about when she’ll finally wilt under the pressure and beg off the ticket. Put me down for “never”

ANDREA MITCHELL:

Well, they, they think now that they have a story. They have a story of a working mom, she is a colorful character, an Annie Oakley, you know, Annie get your gun. They love her story. But when she tried to talk about Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania, in western Pennsylvania yesterday at a rally with conservative Republican voters, Hillary Clinton was booed. So she can use the Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro analogy if she wants to in interviews. She cannot use that at Republican rallies. She is not appealing to the same women who were really voting or supporting Hillary Clinton on ideological issues, but they think that they can peel off some of these working class women, not college-educated, who–the blue collar women who were voting for Hillary Clinton and may be more conservative on social causes.

I rest my case!

Well the Demorats whiny butts are getting their panties dirty as they are. Ha Ha. Obama, saying on the stump “the truth of the matter,” Hello-O Obama hasn’t known the “truth of the matter” since the day he was born Muslim.

Why does Obama always say, Palin is from a small town. . . .because of Obama’s small lying mind that stays in the gutter.
Heard some fat face sissy guy say today, “Let’s be fair with Obama, forget it.”
Don’t give Obama the time of day or night boycott Obama on O’Reilly Thursday night, It’s McCain’s Night. Obama is being himself, a dirty pig and disrespectful when McCain let him have his night. How terrible of Obama.
Just like an evil Muslim pig. I’m not surprised ungrateful MO isn’t on tonight when Palin is speaking, except no one wants to listen to her & her two brats.
Well I’ve heard all I want of Obama. Forever. Just Lies!

NO FAIR, NO WAY, NO HOW, NO Obama! because I say so, NO NO NO! :^o;))

I will be watching tonight when Sarah Palin steps up to the podium and delivers her acceptance speech. I hope she hits one out of the park, and when she does, I am going to be cheering!

carolyne the Degenocraps are beside themselves with angst. For a number of reasons:

    1. The nomination of Sarah Palin took the attention right off them and took the wind out of Obama’s historic nomination sails.
    2. She’s a solid Conservative who adds strength to the McCain ticket and has already energized the base like no one has since Reagan. Now I am looking forward to voting for the first time in this election!
    3. She makes Obama look laughable by comparison. The Community Organizer/Apprentice Senator, who has accomplished little or nothing, daring to bring up the subject of experience! He loses big time on that one!

The Vermincrats are so filled with rage and hatred they are in a tizzy. They thought they had clear sailing to the White House and in the space of 24 hrs they went from smug overconfidence to confusion and discord. So they do the only thing they know how to do: lashing out with lies plus throwing the smear shit into the fan. Trouble is it’s just splattering all over them and revealing them for what they truly are…

Thank you Robert: truer words were never spoken. This is showing the ‘Degenocraps’ (great name) up to be what they really are, scum bums and lovers of Muslim radicals. I’ve called these evil vermin every name in the book enjoying every minute of it. YEA! That thief Obama trying to steel McCain’s thunder Thursday night, well lightning will strike him brainless and speechless, it will back fire on that SOB. This will not work for Obama, he will fail, pride with do him in. “The thief comes not but to steal, kill and destroy” John: 10:10 No one could ever convince me Obama has a righteous bone in his body. Ever! Obama is of his father the devil.>:)8-x

If Obama had wanted to make a difference, he could have gotten on O’Reilly weeks ago, but no the SOB just wants to stir up strife and trouble. He’s now in a panic of losing his precious election, well Obama will lose, big time. People are sick of him and his bad boy ways. His friend the Syrian Muslim Tony Rezcko won’t get out of jail now, but will be joined by Obama, and Ayers. Sooner the better. Obama has lied about everything, done drugs, embezzled funds that did not belong to him, nor was he born in the USA!
    Obama is a criminal.

I am not the least bit worried that he will be on O’Reilly. The fact that he is appearing on FOX News, shows his desperation. Remember that FOX News is evil unless you need more viewers, and then they come in handy. Also, he will not take away from any of the important speeches because FOX airs them and the pundits speak around them.

Do you all still feel the same way about Palin today? I really don’t understand how anyone can deny the fact that she is a little out of her league here. She is an intelligent, ambitious woman – but that could be said for millions of women in this country. This was purely a political move on McCain’s part. You cannot convince me that she is better equipped to lead than Mitt Romney, or any other Governor, Senator, or business leader in this country, despite her “executive experience”. She knows nothing about foreign policy and why should she? She was just brought into this election. How could anyone with her background be properly briefed in just a few weeks time? I can agree that she has not been treated fairly by the press perhaps. But that doesn’t change the fact that she is a poor pick. I have not seen her speak with confidence on any of the issues. Sure, she’s a “true blue American” who can relate to the “real people”, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to be VP. Why on Earth would we want to “dumb down” the government simply to appeal to a certain voting block?? Not that I’m a huge Obama fan, but why is it considered a bad thing that he is Ivy-League educated? We are talking about the leader of the free world here. Our standards should be higher and Palin just doesn’t have what it takes, I’m sorry. I am a woman and I really feel for all of the other more qualified women (and men) who were overlooked.

I really like McCain but even as a conservative I don’t know if I can bring myself to vote for him knowing what trouble we would be in if she had to step into his shoes.
