Could This be True: Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews O-U-T Out!
From the anchor chairs during election coverage and the debates:
MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.
That experiment appears to be over.
After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.
The change ” which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle ” is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.
NBC finally had enough during the conventions, according to the Times. The chant of “NBC, NBC” during the Republican convention didn’t help. It does look like Olby gets to keep his news program : for now.
Let me be the first to say that it’s about time.
Ok, that and the fact that just like the “experiment” of defunked Air America, the public by and large has no interest in listening to moobat commentators acting like sophomoric morons.
Liberals don’t get it. America listens to conservative radio in great numbers because this country is still very much conservative in great numbers.
It is one thing to pursue a niche audience, to engage ideologically extreme and obnoxious commentators and to unabashedly declare your top-rated shows to be “balance-free.” But placing obvious, avowed partisans in the role of “anchors” with the patina of objectivity and sobriety was a stain on the reputation of NBC. And let’s be frank ” the NBC and MSNBC brands are intertwined.
Moreover, it was dumb in the long run for a news organization seeking to compete with less ideologically-tainted outlets. Really, what access and what cooperation do you think the McCain camp has been affording them?
Pardon me, but “perceived shift”? Surely, the Time’s writer jests. Is the shift left even in question? Not to average Americans who pay attention. If my wee blog is any indication, Americans are supremely curious about Sarah Palin and this election generally. Other bloggers report the same increase in traffic. In the absence of hard news, people seek information. When they come to my blog, they’ll note my bias. Yep, I have one. But they’ll also be able to go to the original news sources and check facts.
McCain and the Republicans got to NBC and MSNBC. They pulled Keith Olbermann out of the anchor chair. Probably because we were all sooooooooo “sexist” last week. Really pathetic of NBC/MSNBC. They actually fell for the Republicans’ crap about “bias.” But I’m sure that now that NBC/MSNBC has caved to the Republicans, the GOP will never say another mean thing about the network. Yeah, ask the Democrats how well the “cave just this once and they’ll leave us alone” strategy has worked. Not to mention, how many people at the Republican convention do you honestly believe watch NBC or MSNBC? They watch FOX, you morons. We watch NBC and MSNBC. At least we did. You people are idiots.
Speaking of idiots who kow-tow to conservatives, did you catch the NYT headline on this story? Keith Olbermann is “incendiary,” according to the NYT. You’re all idiots.
The most openly hostile, openly crazed partisan hack on television (and his leg-tingling friend) will no longer be anchoring MSNBC’s election coverage.
Olbermann has no business being associated with “news” at all. He’s a disgrace. Hopefully, this is the first step toward tossing him out on his ear.

Let’s sincerely hope this is the case. Couldn’t imagine two slimeballs more deserving to get removed.

And yet if you ask a liberal if they think the media is biased they will tell you it is but being on the side of conservatives. Yet there are so many pieces of evidence that say otherwise.
September 8, 2008 - 09:38 AM on September 8th, 2008
That’s because of the fundamental mental illness of Liberalism. Those to the Left of center generally live in an Alice in Wonderland world where everything is upside down. The more Left of center, the more severe the mental illness.

I agree that there is a general bias in the media towards the left. given the nature of both sides and the roots of our republic, I’m surprised to see it otherwise. Britsh press is generally opiniotated to one side or the other, with the only difference being that they tell you ahead of time, while CNN and Fox pretend to be centrists.

Hi Robert!! Yes and they absolutely hate Sarah Palin. One liberal I heard this weekend talking called her a “joke.” I guess we’ll see who laughs last.
September 8, 2008 - 11:22 AM on September 8th, 2008
Hi BonBon! Not only is the usual Leftist crowd smearing, but there are actually organized, funded efforts to attack and smear Palin. Last night I listened to two talk radio stations in the SF Bay Area, and you could hear the very same callers calling in to different shows trying to work in the same little lies and insults. it was as though they had a checklist and they were just going down the list. The talk show host on the second program stated that over the weekend he had listened to a number of talk shows and had actually kept a record of the “seminar” callers and their talking points. But this effort is even worse than the usual “seminar” callers; these are now organized, funded campaigns.
I heard one paid caller call in and imply that Sarah Palin was partially responsible for the high infant mortality rate in the U.S. (he never even began to tie this into anything that made sense). Another stated flatly that Palin has no business doing anything outside of the home because she has 5 kids. The talk show host responded by asking whether any father with kids should be doing anything outside the home (Obama has 2). Oh, well that’s different! the propagandist responded.
It’s hilarious because all these paid activists are doing is just energizing the Conservative base even more. They are too stupid to realize that what they are doing is hurting Osama’s campaign because they are just ensuring the Republican/Conservative vote will be at the polls. They are de facto helping the McCain campaign, and they are too mentally ill to even realize it!

Oh I know. She is getting so much attention. I think you are correct though in that the conservatives will come out to vote in droves. But shhh, don’t tell them that. They might stop!
Go Mccain/Palin — what a lady

BonBon, referring to your post above about the Liberal you heard referring to Sarah Palin as a “joke”. If she is a “joke”, then Obama is an entire stand-up comedy routine.
September 8, 2008 - 12:24 PM on September 8th, 2008
Come on, guys. She IS a joke. What does she add to the ticket? Quite honestly, I’m for anyone who can ride into town and clean up, but that speech at the convention is only going to get her so far. Word has it that she only went to the office once or twice a week, due to family commitments. Can’t do that when you are a WEEP.

With all due respect David I myself am always a skeptic to the great orator. In this case though this womans record, as well as her style, matches up and is exactly the change we need in America today.
And Robert, most of the stand up comedians are liberals.

NY-David,
Please provide me with a link to that rumor, otherwise, it goes in my next post that should be up right around the dinner hour!
To answer your question:
Sarah Palin speaks to the millions of people that that feel that our elected government is not in touch with the people. She represents the average family. Let’s not forget that people like Sarah used to make up at least half of the legislative body. In the last century, we went from sending people to Washington that were like us, to allowing the parties to tell us who we were sending.
September 8, 2008 - 01:50 PM on September 8th, 2008
Anyone who does not understand why Sarah Palin was such an excellent choice for McCain, and why so many Americans (both men and women) have immediately connected and identified with her, probably never will understand it.
We can explain it over and over (it has already been well detailed and explained in numerous topics here). Not much left to explain. You get it or you don’t.
We (Conservatives) want change too, but we don’t want Marxism, and we absolutely do not trust Obama to bring anything to the table that the Founders would recognize. As we’ve said a thousand times, McCain is very far from perfect. Adding Palin to the ticket makes it supportable.
September 8, 2008 - 09:22 PM on September 8th, 2008
I agree Robert. McCain’s choice of Palin makes supporting him doable without feeling like I’m just voting against Obama.
And, on the original topic, I am ecstatic that those two socialist douchebags are no longer going to be the anchors for MSNBC’s election coverage, nor will they host any debates. It’s about damn time that someone in the drive-by media took note that the viewers were upset with their undeniable bias.
September 8, 2008 - 10:05 PM on September 8th, 2008
Yes, thanks, I see it all over. Many, many Conservatives I know were lackluster about the election. With palin aboard, they are excited.
And a hint to the nutroots: When you call talk radio stations and blather your very thinly-veneered smears and insults against Palin, you’re just helping more and more people to decide to support her.
