Nate Silver opens his post by saying: Democrats have grown accustomed to winning Michigan by relatively comfortable margins.
That right there is the number one problem. Democrats seem to feel some sense of entitlement to the state. The citizens, Democrats and Republicans alike, are fed up with this. Our state is on the verge of losing many more jobs tied to the Big Three Automakers and by extension, the UAW. Detroit-based supplier, American Axle & Manufacturing Inc, went on strike back in March and it had a trickle-down effect to other suppliers that were forced to layoff workers. Some of those suppliers have not brought the employees back!
Many people in Michigan may have once been sympathetic to a union but now hold them in contempt. Where does Obama stand on this?:
Obama spent part of Monday in Michigan, a union-heavy swing state. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will visit there later this week.
In its memo, the Obama campaign states that the Illinois senator “has been a lifelong advocate for unions and has earned the endorsement of nearly every union in the country.”
It also notes that Obama is a cosponsor of the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, which is also called the “card check” bill. The measure would allow workers to join a union when a majority of them sign authorization cards. Industry groups are strongly opposed to the bill, which is a top priority for unions. Republicans and business groups say the bill would compromise a worker’s right to cast a private ballot on whether to join a union.
The Obama memo says “as president, [Obama] will sign it into law, because workers who want to unionize should be able to.”
Can they organize the lines at the unemployment office?
Maybe Nate answered his own question though:
The other piece of good news is that Michigan is not, strictly speaking, a must-win for Obama. If Obama wins Florida, for instance, he will probably not need either Michigan or Ohio
Maybe the voters already knew that was what was really going on. It isn’t like the AP didn’t let the cat out of the bag on that last week:
Obama has long looked for a way to win the White House without the 20 electoral votes of Ohio, the prototypical swing state.
I can tell you in 3 words what’s wrong with Michigan: Run By Democrats!
We have the same problem in Kalifornia. With all the wonderful things this state has to offer (6th largest economy in the World) it is surely a golden goose. The Democrap-controlled Legislature has had a death grip on this state for 40 years. They are doing their best to kill the golden goose. They think they can just squeeze it harder and harder every year with no consequences.
Stupid bastards are apparently too ignorant to realize if they kill it then there won’t be enough to go around for anyone, not their pet programs, their illegals, their corrupt cronies, their envirowhacko bs, nada, nothing.
